The President welcomed members and guests who were Mesdames - Norma Fummerton, Charlotte Miller, Marg Gerow, Marge Morrill and Betty Baxter. Corsages were worn in honor of mothers. Minutes were read by Mrs. Charles Todesco and 'Mrs. Alvin Slater gave financial report in absence of Mrs. Bill Thrower. Existing accounts were passed for payment. A letter was received from Mrs. Larocque, Hurkett, regarding nominations for district officers. Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Todesco allowed their names to stand for vice-president. Also a letter from Mr. Delesky, Dorion, requesting the number of members who would be attending the District Annual. Nine members decided to attend and Mrs. Todesco and Mrs. Williamson will use their cars to transport delegates . A notice from the Lakehead Exhibition stated there would be an individual event and any member of the W.1. who wish to participate, should make a shoe tote bag. Ontario Traffic Safety bulletin was placed on file. A penny auction is to be held Friday May 29th. Members are reminded to have their prizes in by the 29th and to help set up tables and run the auction. Mrs. Joe Campbell stated forms for the park bench were made. Members decided to continue the scholarship for the students of the two elementary schools with the highest standing passing from grade eight to nine and it would be presented to the student at the September W.1. meeting. There were three W.1. pins sold. Mrs. Clemens gave a report on the Guelph W.1. conference she attended and the theme of the con- ference was "Motivation produces ideas and women should not waste their time on needless things but make the most of their talents". It was also brought up at the conference that pollution is caused by the good things in life and women are urged not to buy plastic dishes, disposable clothes, non returnable bottles or packaged foods as these waste foods, are difficult for the soil to break down and high phosphate detergents are choking the waters and killing marine life. Delegates at Guelph were taken to St. George to see the first home of Mrs. Hoodless who started the W.1. There were also group discussions on W.I. TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 procedures and there is no such word as "Can't" in the W.1. After the business meeting Mrs. Beth Macadam read two poems "Everyday is Mother's Day" and @ "What is a Grandmother". Mrs. Mavis Slater read a humorous poem on "Mothers". A sing song was enjoyed by everyone with Mrs. Fummerton at the piano.- Gifts were given to the oldest mother - Mrs. Mill- ie Smith; the youngest mother - Mrs. Charlotte Miller and the mother with the most children - Mrs. Teresa Stanton. A beautiful lunch was served from a lace covered table with a white and red carnation center piece.
