The comments were lively and pertinent and hold- ing to local cus tom, in some instances invoking laughter. As when in discussing voluntary effort a comparison was made between the man, who cheer- fully according to his means, offers the use of a rake and or shovel, as compared to the contractor offering $34,000 equipment! The suggested plan showed kiddie's playground equipment, tennis court, baseball diamond, track and field space, with trees and shrubs to enhance the grounds. The size of the area to accommodate all these activities was questioned. The matter of washroom facilities and supervision was brought up but it was admitted these would await a firm decision on a 'go-ahead' for the project. A firm offer of support was made by the local Parks and Recreation committee, who are backed by town council. The town, it was stated, can use the fill which must be removed to place the new topping and some present were confident grants can be secured to assist in the program. The Department of Lands and Forests have offered to do the tree planting required. The general feeling, expressed during a coffee break, in small discussion groups, was that the heavy equipment necessary, should be paid for, still leaving much which could be accomplished by voluntary effort. Miss Phillips paid tribute to Schreiber in its self- determination and ability, despite 'party lines' and small coteries, to unite in a common cause - the recent artificial ice installation a classic example. The matter was left for further thought and a later meeting. Photo below - Miss Phillips, Sister Gail listen attentively while Harold Shack explains a point in the proposed playground.
