THE LAKE SUPERIOR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING REPORT The regular meeting of the Lake Superior Board of Educa- tion was held on Saturday, April 18th at 1:00 p.m., in the Manitouwadge High School. Expenditures for March in the amount of $188,783.68 were approved, A very interesting presentation regarding the introduc- tion of Oral French in the Elementary Schools by Mr. J. A. Munroe, principal of the Alexander Public School was well received. He recommended that all our Elementary Schoéls introduce Oral French at as early a grade as possible. As 'Oral French is presently in some of our schools, all that will be required will be an equivalent of one-and-one-half extra teachers. The Board, having heardMr.Munroe's presen- tation, approved the program to introduce Oral French in all elementary schools in our division. Mrs.Jartus, on behalf of the Schreiber Home and School, presented a brief in support of a gymasium in The Schreiber Public School which received considerable attention from all the Trustees. The following resignations from the teaching staffs were . accepted with regret: Mr.Raymond Haywood, Manitouwadge Pub- lic School; Miss Susan Gardner, Ste- vens Avenue Public School; Mrs. Glorie Miller, Schreiber Public School; Mrs. | Joyce Reid, Schreiber Public School; Mrs.Leontine Cormier, Terrace Bay Public :School; Miss Agnes Schellen- berger, Terrace Bay Public School; and Mrs.Joan E.Nugent, Terrace Bay High School. Transfers of staff were approved as fellows: Mrs.Sheron Kistulinec, presently Principal of the Heron Bay Seuth Publié:School which is closing te the staff of Stevens Avenue Publié- Sehoo}], Marathon; Miss Sandra Kragero ef the staff of the Heron Bay South Public School, to Schreiber Public School; and Mr. Alex Gouthro, present- ly on the staff of Schreiber High Scheel, to Marathon High School, as head of the Commercial Department. Mr. R.Potter has been appointed Chairman of the Mathematics section of the Manitouwadge High Schoo}. Mr. Dennis Cooper has been appointed Chairman of the Modern Languages seotion of the Marathon High School. The Board has appointed Mr. Andre LeFort as Library Technician of the Marethon High School. This is the first appointment of a tlay' person to assist teachers in any of our schools and will no doubt receive considerable attention. An inorease in the caretaking staff of the Terrace Bay High School was also approved. The Director was authorized to be- gin proceedings towards the obtaining of certain parcels of land adjacent to the Schreiber Public School in order to enlarge the grounds to ac- commodate a new wing which it is hoped will be ready for September 1970. The proposed wing is to in- clude a Kindergarten room, three eless rooms, 1 Resource Centre, a Multi-Purpose room, washroom facili- ties and storage space. .- The Board authorized the Director to institute the proper procedures DOT KOSKI TERRACE BAY NEWS - BANQUET 6:30 P.M. In ad- dition, he is to acquire six lots on Bayview Street fin Schreiber if possible. Certain policy with regard to transfer of staff was estab- lished as follows: (1) to circulate to the schools in ad- vance positions of responsibility which will be advertised. (2) - a) staff requests.for transfer will be considered. b) if the transfer is effected primarily because or the request, no moving expenses will be paid. c) if a transfer is made on instigation of the Board and with the agreement of the teacher and the principals in- volved, moving expenses for household effects will be paid as for new staff. Mr. J.Duguay of Marathon has been employed to look after the maintenance of Marathon schools and houses. Mr.Duguay will also be responsible for carrying out a maintenance pro- gram. At the same time the services of Woods, Gordon & Company Management Consultants will be engaged to survey, report and make recommendations with regard to an overall maintenance prokram in the schools and teacherages (Continued Page 11..
