ANUARY_15 "THE OWL'S HOOT" BASKETBALL - On Friday, January 10th, Schreiber High School played host to Marathon High School to com pete in basketball games played in the gym at 7 p.m. The Schreiber boys put forth a good effort, but supreme playing power was shown by Marathon as they defeated the Schreiber team 70-28. The Schreiber girls won their game 39-17. The Mara- thon girls played well but were no match for the Schreiber High School team. The highest point scorers were Stan Spadoni and Lynn Simmer for Schreiber High School and S: Will and R. Dyer for Marathon High School . On Saturday, January 11th, Manitouwadge play- ed two games against Schreiber. Schreiber teams won in two of the most exciting games of the new season. The girls won by one basket 30-28 against the skilled Manitouwadge team. The high scorers were L. Simmer, Schreiber High School and G. olduc, Manitouwadge High School . The most suspense-filled game was the boys, won by Schreiber High School 46-42. The skilled Man- itouwadge team was winning the game by a con- siderable sum after the first half.. Schreiber came back and won by four points. The high scorers were S. Spadoni, Schreiber and Nelson from Man- itouwadge . Congratulations go to all teams who showed play- ing ability and good sportsmanship. Also a thank- you goes to the officials who did an excellent job. 1970 THOUGHT OF THE WEEK A man should never be ashamed to say he has been in the wrong, which is but saying in other words he is wiser today than he was yesterday . ADULT CLASSES Sewing and typewriting classes are being held one evening a week at Schreiber High School this year. Mrs. Petrushak, who has taught sewing in previous years is once again teaching the enthusi- astic group of ladies. In May 1969, a certificate was. issued to those ladies successfully completing first year sewing. The chairman of the program was Mr. Williamson, one of our English teachers, and the judges for the event were the Rev. Dean Cano, Mrs. Chicoine and Mrs. Todesco. Mr. Gouthro was the official timer. took part in the contest from Grade 9: Mary Costa spoke on "Teenagers"; Beth Ross - "Helen Keller": Tina Yates - "Pollution" and Joy Yates "Racial Discrimination". From Grade 10: Ted Ross spoke on "Rose Kennedy" and Paul Caccamo on "The Laser". The Grade 11: representative, Trudy Wiznuk, spoke on "An Amer- ican Casualty in Vietnam". Many congratulations to these people who partic- ipated in this event and who helped to make it the success that it was. Congratulations to the winner, Ted Ross, who will now advance to the Area Hydro Public Speaking Contest to be held in Schreiber High School on January 23rd at 7.30 p.m. The general public is cordially invited to attend.
