ARE WE GUILTY OF a. de cad os THE THIRD POLLUTION ? We have just turned over to township Council a letter sent to us by former residents of Terrace Bay who visited here in August. Contrary to many of the comments made by visitors to our town this letter was Critical of the litter visible on the Plaza etc. There has been an increasing: volume of remarks heard lately in this vein which we find alarming. is our town beginning to get a little "beat up" looking? Is the "Gem" becoming tarnished? No gem retains its original luster unless occasionally cleaned. We suggest that early next year an anti-litter campaign (for children and adults) be vigorously carried out. Not just a once a year clean-up but one which is continued on a systematic basis. Let's take pride in the appearance of our town. Babson's Reports recently carried an article on "The Third Pollution" which says: "Although not so much publicized as air and water pollution, a third environmental degradation is attracting increasing concern in the States and by the same rule of delayed reaction as was the case with air and water pollution, similar symptoms may be anticipated in Canada over the next few years. The problem, in short, is that our landscape. faces the threat of being buried under mountains of discarded packaging materials, worn-out automobiles and appliances, and assorted rubbish and garbage." - While the article principally deals at length with techniques of garbage disposal it points up that the problem is of concern to others. We can and must act now to assure that the reputation we have en- joyed for two decades is upheld. WANTED - Ride to Sault Ste Marie, October 18th or 19th. Please phone 3360.
