JUNE 26, 1969 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 17 ' Mr. Ermel Honoured - continued from page 16 . for honouring him and then went on to give a con- densed version of various changes in education and changes in the town since he came to Schreiber. When he came here, he said, there were no lights in the school except one in the principal's office - this supplied by the CPR. The streets were not plow ed and in stormy winter weather the children often had to come to school on snowshoes, skis or tobog- gans. Schreiber Public School has an unique record he said, in that it has only had five principals in over 80 years, also he was the first principal to be superannuated, and during his years here had taught three generations of one family. Things which had influenced his long stay here were the healthy climate, scenery, good hunting and fishing but above all the wonderful co-operation he had received from pupils, teachers, school board and the parents and people. Tea was poured by Mesdames Alex Gordon, Gary Drake, Gerald Fisher, Russell Macadam, with Mrs. W.G. Furlonger as dining room hostess. Servitors were Mesdames Michael Reid, Ruby Gerlach, Bill Miller, the Misses Gwen Hadley, Edith Clemens, Shelbie Closs, Linda Gibson ( all | teachers) and the girls of grade eight. Among the many who attended were friends and former pupils throughout the district. REMINDER Schreiber Residents are reminded that anyone still wishing to register children for the swimming or play ground programs being sponsored by the Schreiber Parks and Recreation Committee con do so by con- tacting Mrs. Flora Bryson.
