APRIL APRIL 24, 1969 Schreiber O .P.P. -continued from page A window at Holy Angels School; | report of cruelty to animals whereby several pet dogs and cats died as the result of suspected placing of poison, All of these matters are presently still under investigation. One investigation was carried out under the provi- sions of the Liquor Control Act. This resulted in one charge being laid. One reported case of family dis- turbance was investigated and settled by means of caution to keep peace. A total of 55 vehicles were given safety checks and as a result 14 warnings were issued for minor infractions and vehicular defects. A total of 2 charges were laid under the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act. AFTERNOON GROUP OF LADIES AUXILIARY The Afternoon Group Ladies Auxiliary of the Com- munity Church met Monday April 21st. The chairman Mrs. Chadwell welcomed the fifteen ladies present. Mrs. 1. Ferrier played the paino for the opening ode and hymn. The theme of "Gentleness" was read by Mrs. E. Evans-Smith during the worship. Several readings were given by Mrs. Chadwell . 'Minutes and treasures report were read by Mrs. R. Harris. Thank you letters from cancer society and Church Board were recieved. Mrs. L. McCausland reported that maple syrup will be arriving soon. Coloured jars are to be collected for Pine Wood Court Mrs. Brooks asked for donations of food for the walk- a-thon. Mrs. S. Slomke reported that on May 6th Mr. Tong from Hong Kong will be guest speaker. The next meeting of the group will be Tuesday May 20th. Att this meeting ladies will pack cartons for crippled civilians in Toronto. Anyone having donations to be | picked up please phone 3241 At the close of the meeting ladies counted Canada Packer lables. Lunch was served. CREATION BRIEFS - by D. Courtemanche PARK AREA-LAKEVIEW AND SUPERIOR We would like to bring to the attention of the res idents of Terrace Bay that there is a park area pres- ently under development in the vicinity of Lakeview and Superior. This area may be utilized in its pres- ent form for pick-up baseball games, etc., and is free for use by all. TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT A tournament is being held at the Recreation TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE B Centre on Saturday May 3rd, and persons wishing to enter this tournament may pick up their registration form at the Recreation Office. There will be prizes for all events. SHUFFLEBOARD - Any ladies who wish to play shuf- fleboard in Meeting Room No. 1 of the Centre in the mornings or afternoons may do so by phoning the Rec- reation Office to make arrangements or coming down on the spur of the moment. There is no charge for this activity and the Director will supply instruction if required. This activity is available from Mondays to Fridays inclusive or weekends if desired. SUMMER PROGRAMME ACTIVITIES Flyers will shortly be distributed throughout the town outlining some of the summer activities, and registration forms will be provided for Fastball, Lacrosse, Swim Instruction, etc. Employment ap- portunities will be indicated in next week's NEWS for summer staff on the Recreation programme. ART COURSE - An Art Course was commenced last Thursday under the instruction of Joe Marcella, Jr., in conjunction with the Recreation Committee and the Art Club, and all comments indicate a great deal of interest in the content of this course. This week will be your last chance to register for this course if you have not already done so. ACTIVITY INTEREST- If you have any programme activities in mind that you would like to see being conducted in Terrace Bay, please let us know. We will be only too pleased to implement such programmeg if interest warrants them. If you have an idea or concern, please call the Recreation Office (3542) and let us share your thinking. JUDO INSTRUCTION - Classes in Judo started last Thursday evening at 6.30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium, under the sponsorship of the Recreation Committee and instructed by Mr. Percy Ahern. This course is open to children 19 years and over, as well as adults. If you wish to register, please contact the Recreation Office or come out to the classes on Thursday evenings. A parent consent form must be signed for all persons under the age of 21 before they may enroll in this course. NORTH SHORE FASTBALL LEAGUE Dorion, Nipigon and Red Rock have indicated that they will be fielding teams in the North Shore Fast- ball League this season. If there are players in Terrace Bay wishing to field a team, please contact the Recreation Office and we will be pleased to assist you in getting organized.
