Dick, one of our better golfers has a keen interest in local gotf and we wish him success in his extensive activities for this season. Dan Rafalant chairman for this years Open, ex- pressed confidence that he can maintain the high calibre of the two past years. In the past this event involved quite an expense, Dan feels that with a little more planning and promotion, which he ex- plained in detail, there is no reason why this tour- ney should not be the largest in the district, es- pecially now that the Videon has cancelled their annual event. Ray Hansan will look after memberships this year and anyone can purchase this years' membership from Ray in Terrace and Neal Ross in Schreiber. The course appears to be in excellent condition, Snowmobilers deserve a big thank you for their caution and consideration at a time when damage would have been inevitable. Roy Cornfield,the greens keeper,assured the com- mittee that there is no evidence of damage done by the winter snowmobile traffic. This is indeed good news and we hope that it will continue so. Every member can help this year's ambitious pro- gram by purchasing his membership as soon as pos- sible. Very shortly the course will be opened with tem- porary greens and it is hoped that care will be tak- en to avoid damage to the grass. Any divot taken at this time of year is irreparable. Such damage could only be repaired by reseeding which takes time. TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 9 TERRACE BAY HIGH SCHOOL MET JOHN SMITH Wednesday, April 9th, John Smith, a member of, the Ontario Provincial Governament, was a guest * speaker at Terrace Bay High School. He belongs to the Progressive Conservative Party and represents Hamilton Mountain. He is also the youngest member of the legislation. Mr. Smith is spending his Easter recess touring Ontario high schools to become more acquainted wit teenage outlooks and opinions. Mr. Smith presented a brief talk on politics in gen era!. This was followed by a question and answer session. The questions covered a wide range of topics about which the students were interested, suc as voting, drinking, the length of the school year and the duties of a politician. Mr. Smith's visit was very worthwhile as most students gained some knowledge of politics. ' Susan Graham. Kiwanis Club Easter Seals - cont'd from page 8 ... Easter Season. Eleven crippled children in Marathon, seven in Terrace Bay, two in Schreiber and one in Rossport will benefit directly from your gifts and all monies not needed for our local children are sent to the Ontario Society for Crippled Children for researc treatment and rehabilitation of other children across the Province of Ontario. The children in our.area suffer from a wide variety of ailments some of which can be serviced from the Lakehead Clinic for Cripplec Children on North Lillie St. Fort William. The more serious and difficult ailments can be treated only in the Toronto Centre for Crippled Children. Five clinics will be held this year in Fort William to which the children in this area will be sent. The crippling diseases include Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus, Polio, Congenital dislocation of the hip, Foot de- formities ; Arthro Gryposis, Ostio Chrondoma, spinal and bone structure deformities and Heophilia.
