No. 11 Vol. 49 Serving the District December 12, 1968 O.W.R.C. OPENS OFFICE IN FORT WILLIAM Plans call for representation by three divisions of the Ontario Water Resources Commission at the recently leased quarters at 411 Donald Street, Fort William. In addition to the Division of Laboratories, which will occupy the top floor of the above two storey building the Divisions of Industrial Wastes and Sanitary Engin- eering will set up offices in the main floor. At pre- sent the Commission has established four personnel in the building comprising their Sanitary Engineering con tingent. Detailed plans of the area covered by this Regional Office are not entirely known at this time, however, the Division of Sanitary Engineering will cover this area from the Manitoba Border to Wawa, in- cluding Terrace Bay. The Commission anticipates providing more frequent coverage for the area now that the Regional Office is established. Past years have seen district staff from Toronto in our area on a routine basis 2 to 3 times per year. With the new office, municipalities and industries will be able to consult with the Commission staff almost at will and can expect at least three routine visits from the Sanitary Engineering staff each year. The added benefit with regard to the regional labora- tory facilities will greatly improve the examination of routine samples from area treatment works. Further, the investigations of pollutional causes should be fac- ilitated by the regional laboratory, although it is expected that the examination of sophisticated samples will still be conducted at the Main Laboratory in Toronto. At present, the O.W.R.C. has established other such regional offices in London and Kingston with the District Engineer located in Toronto. The new Lake- head Regional Office will comprise a District Engineer in both the Division of Industrial (cont'd on Page 7) COUNCIL QUOTES Township Council met in regular session on Tuesda' evening and, following reading of the minutes of las: meeting, dealt with considerable correspondence.
