VOL . 11 NO..39 COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council met in regular session with Reeve Cavanaugh presiding and all four council lors present. Clerk Hanley read the minutes of the previous meeting which were adopted as read. Correspondence included a letter from the High School which stated that water and sewer lines were being installed and would be completed shortly, for the new addition. The School bus parking facilities were discussed, and an agreement will be reached in the near future. A septic tank will be installed for the Boy Scout Headquarters building . Salary for Mrs. Rena McAdam, School Nurse will be adjusted. A letter of congratulations was sent to the Local Unions, Pulp and Sulphite Workers and the Electri- cians, for the excellent program arranged for the children of Terrace Bay on Labor Day, also for the dance provided for adults in the evening. The only complaint was that strict enforcement of the age limit be adhered to, in compliance with the Liquor Laws, at future dances . Councillor Desrosiers announced that the Cemetery fence had been painted and all was in good order. Ontario Fire Marshall Lorne Cottenden had been asked to prepare specifications re a new Fire truck, which will be passed on to the incoming Council. Council approved all policies prepared by Recrea- tion Director Dave Courtemanche in respect to Rec- reation, and anything referring to such policies should be the responsibility of the Recreation Coun- cil, which will in turn report to Town Council. Building permits must be approved by Clerk Hanley and one member of the Council. A qualified Operator and Caretaker for the Recrea tion Centre has been hired, (Cont'd on page 5) SERVING THE DISTRICT OCTOBER 3, 1968 AMALGAMATION OF SEPARATE SCHOOL BOARDS On September 30th, 1968 the separate school supporters of Terrace Bay and Schreiber had the opportunity to attend a meeting in the Terrace Bay Curling Lounge to hear Mr. L. Maki, Assistant Area Supervisor and Mr. W. Struck, District Supervisor of Separate Schools, explain Amalgamation of the two separate school boards. The amalgamated board will consist of five elected trustees from Terrace Bay and three elected trustees from Schreiber. Nominations for these trustees will take place on November 18th, with the election taking place on December 2nd. ° The two gentlemen explained in detail the amend- ment to the Separate Schools Act - namely Bill 168 which had its third reading on July 17, 1968. A lively question and answer period followed with all questions answered in words the ordinary layman could understand. This public meeting was adjourned at 9.15 p.m. and a closed meeting for the Interim Committee was held. The Interim Committee is comprised of members of the two school boards, namely Mr. D. McGuire, Mr. J. Powers, Mr. L. Burke, Mrs. W. Mullins of Schrei- ~ ber; Mrs. F.A. Helmink, Mr. J. Kennedy, Mr. A. Theriault and Mr. F. Sechesky of Terrace Bay. Mr. L. Maki and Mr. Stuck were in attendance at this first meeting. Appointed Chairman and public rela- tions officer was Mrs. F.A. Helmink, Mr. D. Mc- Guire appointed secretary, Mrs. W. Mullins finance chairman and Mr. F. Sechesky, Teacher-Board Lia- son Officer. The Interim Committee will have the responsibility of preparing for a smooth transfer from a two board operation to one board.
