PAGE 14 TERRACE SCHREIBER HIGH SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS The Schreiber High School Board comprised of Mr . L.R. McCuaig (Chairman), Mrs. L. Godin (Vice- Chairman), Mr. J.M. McGrath, Mr. N. Ross and Mr. C. Sparkes, has had many meetings during the past few months. The results of these are seen throughout the school: A green "dado" was painted in the halls and the gymnasium of the school . Alternations have been made in the office. A tem- porary guidance service centre has been constructed from a former store room. The telephone system in the school has been modernized. At present, the former cadet room is being altered} to accommodate book storage and a teacher working area. In order to lessen the congestion that presently , exists in some areas of the school, the Board will be | renting a portable classroom from the Town Council . Construction of this room is scheduled to commence next week and it should be ready for classes by October 15, 1968. SCHREIBER HIGH SCHOOL: HOLIDAYS A very effective and interesting means of educa- tion is travelling. Much can be learned about people and their diversified ways of life by visiting communities throughout our province and country. Secondary school students should be encouraged to travel during some of their weekends and holidays. In order for students and their parents to plan for educationally oriented trips indicated below are a list of days in which classes will no be held at. Schreiber High School: Monday, October 14th - Thanksgiving Day Friday, October 25th - Professional Development Day Monday, November 11th - Remembrance Day Christmas Holidays - December 21 - January 5, in- clusive Winter Holidays - March 15-23, inclusive Good Friday - April 4th; Easter Monday - April 7th Victoria Day and Celebration of the Queens Birth- day: May 19th plus Saturdays and Sundays. - BAY NEWS Active pallbearers were Rus- Sell Nesbitt, Russell Macadam, Tony Caranci, Alec Gordon, Tony Fiorenza, and Bill Gerow. Honorary pallbearers werg Norman Eady (Fort William), Nelson Smith, Bil Alcorn George Moore, Eddie Gerow and Bruce Simon. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Ushers were Bill Weaver and Bill Miller, both relatives of the deceased, The Masonic Lodge, of which Mr. Rattray was a long - time member conducted their funeral rites in the Gawley Funeral Home. Mr. Rattray's immediate sur- vivors are his widow, the for- mer Pearl Weaver, to whom he was married in 1918, three daughters, Helen (Mrs. Ross Greenwood), Jean (Mrs. Don MacLeod), and Marnie (Mrs, Earl Cameron), eight grandchil- dren, and a sister, Miss Anne Rattray. Mr. Rattray was 78 years old and had been ill for many years. | Although his name was William | Stewart, few knew it, since he | was always called John or Jack, derived possibly, due to his un- MBER QO Swerving integrity, from the common "Honest John." He was born in Tyendinaga, Ont, ' although he came to Schyei>er from Eganville, 58 years ago and went to work immediately, as a trainman for the CPR, re- tiring as a conductor in Octeber 1957. He had received his 55- year membership from the Brotherhood of Railway Train- men and when he first came to Schreiber played with town's professional hockey team. Attending the service, from out of town, were Miss Anne Rattray, Mr. atid Mrs. James Rattray, and Mrs, Norman Rat- tray, of Ottawa, Mr. and Mps. Ross Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Greenwood, of Rex- dale, Mr. and Mrs. Don, Mac- Leod, Diane and Sheila Mac- Leod, and Mr. and. Mrs, Earl Cameron, of Sudbury, Mr. and Mrs, Robert Wéaver and Mrs. Vernon Weaver, of Terrace Bay, all relatives, Mrs. Percy Page, Mrs, John Stewart, Miss Pearl and Miss Grace Fadden and Ronald Sheffield, of Port Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Eady of Fort William, Mrs. A. RATTRAY The funeral of the late W. S. Miss Wendy Weaver was the (Jack) Rattray, was conducted Sept. 8 in St. Andrew's United Church by Rev. E. C. Prinse- laar, assisted by Mr. Ronald Sheffield of Port Arthur. organist and the hymns chosen were Breathe On Me Breath of God and the Twenty - Third Psalm.
