VOL 11, NO. 26 COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE UNVEILED HERE A half hour delay.in starting the ceremonies held last Saturday morning at Centennial Park, was spent by those attending in chatting with friends and en- joying a sun which emerged from behind a fog bank Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Terrance Scott of Ter- race Bay Chamber of Commerce, held up proceed- ings on learning that a plane from Kapuskasing carrying one of the guest speakers, Mr. Rene Brunelle, Ontario Minister of the Department of Lands and Forests, had to land at Marathon and that he. was being rushed to Terrace Bay from there by auto. The occasion marked the unveiling of a bronze plaque erected by the Department of Public Rec- ords-and Archives, acting on the advice of the Archaeological and Historic Sites Board of Ontario and commemorates the Glacial Terraces which have been formed over many thousands of years as the waters in Lake Superior recede. The town of Terrace Bay adopted its name from the prominence of these' terraces in this vicinity. Introduced by Mr. Scott, township Reeve W.E. Cavanaugh and Mr. J.E. Stokes, member of the Ontario legislature, brought greetings and reminis- ced on earlier days in the district. Professor K.C.A. Dawson of the Lakehead Unive sity, outlined the objectives of the Department of Public Records and Archives, and Mr. Keith Denis, president of the Thunder Bay Historical Society gave dn interesting account of the history of the area. At this point, Mr. Brunelle, who had arrived a few minutes earlier, was introduced and conveyed the greetings of his Department and that of the.Hon James A.C. Golfing under conditions which would have taxed the hardiest P.G.A. player, forty-three of the dis- tricts ardent golfers teed off on Monday morning in a day long battle to decide this year's Club Champ=- | ion. . Early in the day, threatening clouds began dis- charging their burden of rain, which continued in varying degrees almost the entire day. After the first nine holes, it looked like a close run between Father Harris, Bill Hanley and Bob Ad- amo. Final results showed Father Harris in the lead with runner-up Bill Hanley only two strokes behind, and Bob Adamo, a close third place winner. Kit Thomas had low net score while Chas. Koski, P. Gagnon and Ernest Uzicanin, whose scores were identical will have to play an elimination round next week to decide who are 2nd and 3rd low net eae (Cont'd on p ge 5)
