Bas A course on Hunter Safety Training, sponsored by the Terrace Bay Fish & Game Association, has re- cently been completed with twenty-six of our local teen-agers passing successfully. Some subjects covered by the course are: know- ledge of guns ard their parts, proper gun handling, good shooting practices and the responsibilities of the hunter in the field, all essential to safe hunting A total of ten hours of classroom work, plus a session in the field, practicing shooting and field movements has provided these young people with a background necessary to help them take the Depart- ment of Lands & Forests' examination, which is now mandatory for all persons seeking their 'first time" hunting license. The local club has been providing this type of instruction for several years, recognizing that Cont'd on page 8 SERVING THE DISTRICT JUNE 20, 1968 HISTORICAL PLAQUE TO BE ERECTED IN CENTENNIAL PARK ON JUNE 29th - Reeve Cavanaugh chaired the regular meeting of Town Council, with three councillors present. Min- utes were approved as read by Clerk Hanley. The first item of business arising from the minutes was the July Ist Fireworks Display. Fire Chief Thorpe met with council to discuss a suitable place to hold the display. Due to the congestion at the mouth of the river, it was decided to hold the fire- works down by the Pumphouse road. There will be restrictions on parking, but a good view will be af- forded the watchers from the top of the hill . A letter from the Ontario Municipal Association, stating there would be a meeting in Windsor this year, August 11-14, resulted in Jack Caccamo being named a representative on behalf of Council, as well as any other councillor who finds he is able to attend. A letter from Don Husband requested that Council have the old cars between houses 89 and 90, Hud- son Drive, be removed. The Chamber of Commerce informed Council that a Historical Plaque to Glacial Terraces will be e- rected in Centennial Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 29th. A letter from Jack Stokes was read advising that the appeal to hold up a decision on the Hardy re- port had been denied. Council will request furth- er action to delay implementation of the report. Mr. Harry Coe had submitted a summary of action taken at the first meeting of the Thunder Bay Dis- trict Health Unit. In the monthly Fire Department report, it was stated that there had been two fires - one grass fire and one at the ski hill. Councillor Roy Bray advised of a meeting with con'td page 14
