PAGE 14 Schreiber - Cont'd from page 15 LONG - TIME RESIDENT DIES Funeral of the late Peter Sparks, aged 72, whose death occurred in hospital March 11th after a long illness, was conducted in St. John's Anglican Church on March 13, by Rev. Arthur Chabot of Mar athon. Mrs. Lester McCuaig was organist and the hymns chosen were What a Friend We Have in Jesus and Abide With Me. Pall bearers were Alex Furyk, Walter Shevchuk, Phillip Dankovich, John Danylevich, Paul Humen- icki and Harry Shack. Interment was.in Schreiber cemetery. Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, the former Mary Dunkirk, and one daughter, Jo-Anne. Born in Austria, Mr. Sparks came to Canada in 1913 and was immediately employed by the Mainte- nance of Way Department of the C.P.R., remaining there until his retirement, due to ill health, in 1955 He and Miss Dunkirk were married in 1943, living in Rossport for 5 years, then returning to Schreiber. He had spent the past five years in a Fort William hospital . Mr. Sparks was an adherent of the Anglican Church and member of the Maintenance of Way Lodge. Attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. J.G. Molinsky, (sister-in-law) of Vancouver, Mrs. K. Koschuk of Fort William, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley lijow, Danny and Gloria of Nipigon, Alex Zwar- esch and John Litwinuik of Rossport, and Mrs. D. Gunter of Terrace Bay. Their children, Pamela 7 years old, Nicky, 5, anc Minny, 3, all speak English, Hindi and Marathi. The Deol family came from India.in September last year to Toronto, and in the late fall, moved to this area. SUGGESTS LESS MAKE-UP ON WAITRESSES Roll call at the March meeting of the Schreiber Women's Institute was answered by a showing of an- tiques. A copper kettle, 100 years old, brought by Mrs. C. Todesco, was much admired. Mrs. Albertini of Port Arthur was welcomed by Mrs. Harvey McCanna, who presided for the meeting An appeal for donations of household effects and good used clothing for a family burned out was tnade Motto of the meeting was "In Youth We Learn and in Old Age We Understand." Mrs. Todesco read a paper prepared by Mrs. W. Clemens describ- ing the changes in the educational system. A resolution was drafted to present to the annual meeting, suggesting that it be brought to waitresses attention to the fact that less make-up would make them more attractive to customers, in particular, shorter hair and finger nails. Appreciative letters were received from the muni- cipal council and Mrs. Kusmic, mother of Schreiber New Year's Baby, for the party arranged in the baby's honour. A paper on Safety in the Kitchen was read by Mrs. Todesco, and she was instructed, as secretary to write for literature on Safety in the Home. A draw on a hamper of groceries was arranged for the month of May. Mrs. J.C. Campbell volunteer- ed to arrange an Easter Bunny draw. Following the meeting, Mrs. K. Williamson convened a penny auction and lunch was 'served. KKKEKKRKRKRKRKKRKKRKRKKRKRKRRKRKRKRKREESE FAMILY FROM INDIA MAKE HOME IN SCHREIBER Mr. and Mrs. U.S. Deol and their three daugh- ters are the first family from India to reside in Sch- reiber, and have made many friends. Mr. Deol was born in Gurdapur, Punjab, where he received his early education. He then attended Government College in Lahore and went on to ob- tain his Master's Degree from the Punjab University. Mrs. Deol was born in Multan, Pakistan, and re- ceived her early education in Desmaj College, Fer- ozepur, and Educational training at the Punjag Un- iversity in Solan. She holds a First Year Master's degree in history and a diploma in Physical Educa- tion. It was while the two were teaching in Patiala that they met. Both Mr. and Mrs. Deol are teaching in Schrei- ber ; Mr. Deol in the high school and Mrs. Deol Edgar LeBlanc and Gino Caccamo, both of whom had been in Toronto Hospitals, returned home on Wednesday .
