"REGULAR MEETING OF THE C.W.L. The St. Martin's Parish Council of the C.W.L. met on March 10 at 8.15 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The meeting was-epened with the League Prayer led by President Mrs. H. Boudreau. Among the correspondence, read by Secretary Mrs. W. Pytyk, was a letter from Father Kelly of Japan, thanking the ladies for donations, received. The Bakeless Bake Sale, held in February, proved successful, and all projects were sent to a local mission. Prior to the meeting, the Rosary was said for the best in Catholic Education led by Spiritual Conven- or Mrs. G. Ramsay who, during the meeting, read an interesting article entitled "When You Miss One Holy Communion." Resolutions and Report Forms Convenor Mrs. W. Corrigan urged the ladies to get out and vote on March 13,14, or 15 at the Municipal Office, for or against Daylight Saving Time. Girl Guide Convenor, Mrs. E. Kettle, read an article on our responsibilities as parents of Guides or Brownies, and made an appeal on behalf of the local association, who are desperately in need of new members. lt was agredd that the left-over penny auction tickets would be donated to the Student Council of the Terrace Bay High School . The Nominating Committee for the new execu- tive was appointed; namely Mrs. A. Allen, Mrs. G. Dashkewytch and Mrs. R. Roberts. This committee will be in touch with members of the League in the near future, regarding the up and coming election. Items were collected for the burned-out family from Coldwell and sent to Schreiber on Monday. Meeting adjourned with the singing of "Holy God We Praise Thy Name" and "O Canada", and the ladies enjoyed playing a variety of card games. The door prize, a piece of Blue Mountain Pottery, was won by Mrs. P. Malashewski. Douglas Sly, of Nipigon, to run as their candidate in the next Federal Election. The Convention held on March 3 had Mr. E. Schreyer, M.P. for Springfield, Man., as guest speaker. Mr. Schreyer spoke on the current economic situation in Canadg; particularily the Tax Bill now before Parliament. He displayed a wide | knowledge of economic affairs, and pointed out many instances where the current government has shown a lack of initiative and common sense. Jack Stokes M.P.P. spoke on the Nor-Ply situa- tion, pointing out that Financial and Managerial difficulties seem to be the main cause of its closing. He stated that he had been informed by Provincial Ministers, that timber was available, and that there is reported to be other firms interested in continuing to operate the plant. Following the results of the final ballot, Rev. Sly thanked his supporters and gave his assurance that he would do his utmost to participate in a good campaign; and if successful, to represent Thunder Bay and Canada as they deserve.
