ARCH 14, 1968 SCHREIBER TERRACE BAY NEWS FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. SPICER The funeral of the late Mrs. Richard Spicer, aged 87, whose death occurred in Fort William on March 8, was conducted in St. John's Anglican Church in Schreiber March 6 by Rev. R. J. &. Inshaw, of Nipigon. Mrs. Lester McCuaig was the erganist and the hymns chosen were "Breathe On Me Breath of God," and "Unto The Hills." The pallbearers were George and Geoff. Birch, Cyril Sparkes, Alvin Slater, Burton Phillips, and Wayne Wilson. Burial was in Schreiber cemetery. Mrs. Spicer is survived hy 'relatives in England and two nieces in Schreiber - Mrs. Hu- bert Weaver and Miss Irene 1 Spicer. She was predeceased by her husband in 1957. Mrs. Spicer, known to every- one in Schreiber as Aunt Susie, came from England as a bride in 1910 and lived here until 1965 when failing health forced her to give up her own home and move to Fort William. She was an ardent worker in her church, and long-time mem- ber, and past noble grand of Ruby Rebekah Lodge, to which she had transferred from Green- stone Lodge. She was one of the little group calling themselves the Victory Club, .who remade clothing and sent it to victims of the blitz in England. The Ruby Rebekah Lodge held its funeral service in the Gaw- ley Funeral Home, March 5. SERVICES HELD FOR MR. J.V.(BUTCH) MOORE The funeral of the late Joyce Valentine Moore, aged 56, whose death occurred after a long illness in his home in Dryden, was conducted in St. And-. rew's United Church in Schreiber on March 5th, by | Mrs. Lester McCuaig was Rev. E.C. Prinselaar . the organist and the hymns chosen were Abide With Me, and Oh God Our Help In Ages Past. was in Schreiber cemetery. The pall bearers were Lloyd Small, Jack Winters, Keith and Bordon Ross, Herbert Gellert and Len Hiller. The funeral was under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, with services led by L.V. Bourke in - the Gawley Funeral Home and at the graveside. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, one daughter, Vanita (Mrs. Frank McKenna) of Schreiber, and three grandchildren. Mr. Moore, known as Butch, to all his friends, came to Schreiber in 1948 and owned his own busi- ness here. Four years ago he went west, and at the time of his death owned another business in Dryden. In addition to friends from Rossport and Terrace Bay who attended the service, were his wife from Dryden, Mrs. Hannah Larsen and Glen Pearen of Dryden. Whent, R. Turner, F. Fummerton, M.J. McGrath, T.C. Relph and Miss Crystal Kusik, with Mrs. J.D. Bryson as pianist. The collection was taken by Mrs. D'Arcy McGuire and Mrs. John Spillane. Following the meeting, tea and lunch was served and a social hour was enjoyed by all. MARCH OF DIMES COLLECTION A SUCCESS Three hundred and ninety-eight dollars and forty one cents was realized by the Marching Mothers in the collecting done in Schreiber and Rossport . Kushnieryk, |. Jacomb, P. Doig, J. Maclsaac, R. Campbell, and H. Lif. A.C.W. MEETING Mrs. A.C. Rigelsford presided for Monday's meeting of the A.C.W. A minute of silence was observed in memory of the late Mrs. Susan Spicer, long time member of the Church Auxiliary. Mrs. Flora Bryson, convenor of the recent fish dinner, reported it to be most successful . Another is planned for April 5th. Mrs. Bryson also reported in the absence of Mrs. Jack Winters, that the re- cent Hat and Wig Show had been very well attendeq A sale of Hot Cross Buns and decorated Easter eggs will be held on April 11th. Mrs. B. Lidkea reported sending many cards, during February. Plans were started for a card party, the date to be decid ed later. Estimates were considered for completion of work on the entrance to the church basement and the cupboard there. The regular meeting night of the A.C.W. has been changed from the Ist Wednesday afternoon of each month to the Ist Thursday even- ing. The next meeting will require ladies to bring material for sewing groups. Meeting was closed by Mrs. Bryson and:Mrs. J. Corbett was tea hostess.
