Township Councillor Dave Desrosiers threw the first rock as the 1968 O'Keefe Mixed Playdowns got - underway last Saturday. Rinks from Marathon, Nip- 'igon, Schreiber, and Terrace Bay kept the large aud- ience on the edge of their seats with some fine curl- ing. Six of the seven games were decided by the last rock, and two of these were extra end games. A banquet Saturday evening at the Terrace Hotel was followed by a business session under the chair- manship of Hugh Brophy. Nipigon was named host club for the 1969 O'Keefe Mixed Zone 4 Playdowns to be held February Ist and 2nd. The three way tie that ended the round was resolv- ed when Terrace Bay drew the bye. Schreiber then downed Marathon with a last rock clutch shot by Burton Phillips skip (Cont'd on page 8) he PAL ips accepts Safety Certificate from J.Durand One of their most popular events was held by the Terrace Bay Area Employees Hydro Club last Saturday starting with a mixed bonspiel which got underway at 10 a.m..in the Schreiber Curling Rink. Winners in the various events were: F. Liebrock, skip, S. Garlick, Mary Milks and J. Phillips - Ist. prize and Consolation - Marie Edmunds, skip, W. Slomke, L. Halonen and Mrs. Jan Hall. Highlight of a dinner held in the Schreiber Hotel was presentation of Safety Awards given in recognition of another year with no lost time accidents. Ray Pit- kanen accepted an award for his Forestry crew who have completed three years withour an accident. Laurie Halonen, former area foreman, accepted for the line crew who have a ten year record, and Jack Phillips accepted for the Operating staff who have never had an accident since records were first kept (over eleven years) (Cont'd on page 8)
