JANUARY 25 1968 CANCER SOCIETY MEETS The Cancer Society of Terrace Bay met recently at the home of Mrs. Vivian Rapke. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Mrs. Helen Brooks reported on the open air tea held on the lawn of the Municipal office last summ- er, which was very successful in spite of the weathey Many tourists stopped to enjoy a cup of tea, along with the townspeople. Mrs. Rapke attended the District-Annual Meeting in October. She spoke of seeing Smoking Sam on display. The Cancer Society would like to put the display on in Terrace Bay. They feel that if child- | ren could be shown the dangers of smoking at an early age, it might discourage them from starting. Mrs. Ursula Wills reported that literature, on cancer in children, would be delivered to each home in Terrace Bay at Campaign time. Church calendars displaying the Daffodil will be used to open the cancer campaign. The Cancer Society would like to find a woman, able to run a projector, so that Cancer filins can be shown to the women of Terrace Bay some afternoon. Anyone who is able to help in this capacity is asked to contact Mrs. Wills or Mrs. Rapke. The Terrace Bay Male Chorus has been reduced so greatly in numbers this year that it has been too dificult to continue as a Male Chorus. In order that we may continue to bring local tal- ent and musical entertainment to the community and surrounding area the Male Chorus has decided to form a "mixed choir". Recreation Director D. Courtemanche and Mr. B. Rowsome , Principal of the High School formed the panel. Mr. Rowsome stated that there seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm and leadership among the youth of Terrace Bay, and a lack of communication between teen-agers and their parents. The meeting was called to see wheth- er or not there was a need for a Community Confer- ence in Terrace Bay. The Dept. of Education, Fort William, is willing to send counsellors here to assist the Community Services Committee in holding a seminar to discuss the problems. Mr. Courtemanche stated that survey forms would have to be completed before a document could be prepared. The objective of the conference would be Community Dialogue, be tween participants.
