TRAGEDY CLAIMS LIFE OF SCHREIBER NUN Rev. Sister St. Vincent of the Convent of St. Joseph's, Schreiber, was Killed in a cer secident neer Pic River on Sunday, Cetober 8. The accident, which occurred thirty miles east of Schreiber, wes due to hazardous driving conditions created by the sudden downfall of snow. Sister Mergeret Rose wes injured in the accident also, and is now in the Meretnhon hospitel. Sisters St. Timothy and Loyola, elso occupents in the:cer , were not injured. The sisters were enroute to lenitowedge when the tragic accident occur- ed. Sister St. Vincent was @ music teacher at the Convent, and her feest day wes celebreted two weeks ego. ™he accident is being investigated by Constable S.R.Jones, OLP ss Sister St. Vincent is survived by her parents, brothers, end sisters. The funeral will be held in North Dey. JAMES JOHNSTON FORD FUNERAL HELD The funeral of the late James Johnston Ford, who died in hospital following an illness, October 4, was conducted in St. Andrew's United Church, Schreiber on October 6, by Rev. E.C. Prinselear. . Mrs. L. McCusig was organist. Honorary pall bearers and active pall bearers were ell members of the Royal Canadian Legion. whose service was conducted by Jack luke. Honorary pall bearers were Ed Nicol, Walter Wilkes, Tom Bolan, Tom Whitton and Nelson Smith. Active pajl bearers were Lloyd Small, Bill Peredis, Frank McKenna, Bob Spadoni Keith Ross and Wallace McCouan. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mr. Ford was predeceased by his wife brother Nelson in 1954. Immediate survivors are two sisters - Mrs. MeE.Davis of Fo William and Mrs. Edne Sutherland of Regine, Mrs. Bill Lidkea, niece and Ken Davis, Nephew of Schreiber. Mr; Ford who wes 73 years old, wes born in Lower Leitchfield Quebec, coming to Schreiber first in 1916. He returned to Ottawa where he went overseas with the Eastern Onterio Regi- ment in 1917, returning in 1919 and went out west but return- ed to Schreiber in 1943 where until retirement in 1959, he was employed with C.P.R. Stores Department. Attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Davis, Fort' William, Mrs. Sutherland, Regina and Jody Davis, London, Ontario. Christine in 1927, a Mr. & Mrs. Tom McCuaig and Mr. & Mrs. Jim McCuaig of Fort William spent the weekend with McCuaig relations here. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Cote of Espanola spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stewart. Visiting Mr. & Mrs. Jack Rattray recently have been Mrse Harl Cameron (daughter) and her daughter Marilyn of Sudbury , Bruce Greenwood, grandson, Toronto and Mr. & Mrs. L. Cameron of Dayton, Ontario. Giselle Chicoine, Peter Christie, Roger Fournier and Carl Pearson were home from college in Sault Ste. Marie for the weekend. Mr. & Mrs. J.D. Bobka had with them for Thanksgiving the latter's perents, Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Bush of Gornwell, and Mr. and Mrs. Je Robertson of Prescott, Ontario. Mrs. Nellie Simpson was received into membership at the morning service in St. Andrew's United Church. Nr. & Mrs. WeE. Loree had with them for the weekend, the former's sister and husband - Mr. & Mrs. R. Irving of An~ caster, Ontaria. The brother and sister have much in common being Mr. Loree, Principal of Schreiber High School and Mrs. Irving Past President of the Ontario Federation of Teachers and of the Federation of Women Teachers of Ontario and pre~ gently on a scholarship from the latter, studying for her doctorate. She travels abroad organizing and speeking at workshops end seminars in fields of education. ANGLICAN CHURCH WOMEN Met Mrs. Jack Winters and Mrs. Jack Bryson were welobued am new menbers, by Mrs. AE. Rigelsford, president at the October meeting of the Anglican Church Womene Members agreed to support the CeWele in their endeavour to get better milk service for Schreiber. Meeting time was changed to 2 pem. from 3 peme and plans were made to sponsor a home produce teble at the Halloween Bazaar October 28. Mrs. Be Lidkea accepted office of treasurer, replacing Mrs. Bob Graye Mrs. Cyril Sparkes was lunch hostess. ROSSPORT NEWS Ronald Legault and Larry Schween of Port Arthur spent the weekend at the former's cottage here. Mr. & Mrs. Peter King, Scott and Mr. Adolph King were guests of Mr. & Mrs. E. Gerow for Thanksgiving weekend. Sten Lif of Red Lake visited his parents, Mr. & Mrs. He Lif over the weekend. Maggie and Jacob Achenyseneskum of Albany are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bouchard. Gilbert Gerow and son Michel of Meanitouwadge visited rel- atives here over Thanksgiving end went hunting on the islands Clem Downey was home from Kakabeka Falls where he teaches school. Mr. Sam Welker left Friday to spend the winter in Fort William with Mr & Mrs. We. Angrove. Romeo Bouchard accompanied his daughter home from Toronto by plane and ambulance. Shirley had an operation and will be a bed patient for three months. Jos. Fowler of Pembroke arrivedSaturdey to visit Mrs. De Gerow and Patsy. Mr. & Mra. T.Fe Seppala held a Coffee and Conversation party Sunday evening at the Inn from 7 to 9 peme to meet and chat with the villegers. Mre Seppala is Progressive Conservative Candidate for the Thunder Bay Riding. Mrs. Be Lespenski was hostess to the members of the St. Berchman's Altar Society Thursday evening for their monthly meeting. President Mrs. flerb 'Legault chaired the meeting. Mrs. Lespenski read the minutes and correspondence while Mrs. Agnes Legault presented a satisfactory financial statement. It was decided to have a draw on & Christmas hamper consisting of turkey etc. Prayers were offered for world peacee Following adjournment several games were pley- ed and refreshments served. RECREATION BRIEFS Minor Hockey - Last call for registrations . Tce In Arena - We hope to have ice available for public skating on Saturday, November 4. Tap & Ballet Classes - Classes are progressing well. If you wish to join, contact the Recreation Office or come out to class Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. large meeting room of Recreation Centre. Activity Calendar - We are attempting to set up a calendar to be printed in the NEWS. Purpose of the calendar is to avoid overlap of programmes and activities.
