June 22, 1967 TERRACE BAY NEWS Page II CENTENNIAL CORNER The Horseshoe tournament being held in conjunction with the summer festival will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 30 at the Kiwanis Beach. Entries must be in to Gordon Calder or Ray Cook by June 26. There will be events for men, women and teenage boys. Prizes are on display in the Credit Union window . It is hoped that many families will plan to picnic at the beach on June 30 and take part in the Horseshoe tournament and stay for the beach dance. LADIES GOLF NEWS Sunny weather favoured the ladies for their first 2-ball tournament last Saturday which was thoroughly enjoyed by the twenty participants. Winners in events were: Ist. net - Marg. Hayes and Jackie Turner, 2nd. net - Rita Bennitz and Ivy Pattison, Hidden Hole - Ellen Campbell and Gail Savoy. Winners in last Tuesday's round were: Low Gross - Marie Edmunds, Low Net - Marg. Hayes, Hidden Hole - Gail Savoy. RECREATION NOTES - by David Courtemanche Pool Opening - We are trying very hard to have the pool open for this Thursday, however, we find th t we are fighting many elements such as weather and power failures. It is our intention to try and open the pool on Thursday. The proposed pool hours will be from 2 p.m. to5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to9 p.m. seven days a week until July 3rd at which time swimm ing lessons will start and we will have a new schedule for you. If you do not have your registration form in by now please submit it im mediately as the classes are now being drawn up. Roller Skating The Terrace Bay Navy League will again be operating roller skating this season. They are presently making repairs to skates and preparing for their opening which is expected to be Sunday July 2 from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be roller skating every Sunday, however, if the crowds demand it other days will be included. It is the intention of the Navy League to have a special session just for skate boards during each roller skating period. So boys and girls get those skate boards tuned up, and in good running condition! Summer Festival - The Terrace Bay Teen Town is usy preparing for their summer festival which is to be held on June 30 and July 1. The program calls for a lot of excite- ment and fun for everyone. Starting Friday June 30 there will be an official opening with aparade of floats, cross country race, many events for children, teenage mud fight, artistic paint throwing contest, motorcycle stunts, beach cook out for parents and children, horseshoe tournament, art display, and a big beach dance to end the evening. On Saturday , July 1, the day starts with an outdoor pancake break fast, soap box derby, orienterring race for all age groups, artistic paint throwing contest, treasure hunt (finders keeper) pie eating contest etc., art display and a mod dance and the crowning of the Summer Festival Queen in the arena. A special Rock and Roll band called The Torquays are being imported from Toronto to assist in the festivities and dance. Registration forms for the Horseshoe tournament can be obtained by contacting Gordon Calder. Soap box derby registration forms will be distributed through the schools this week. Atiractive festival buttons will go on sale soon to assist with the select- ion of Queen and to help finance the program in which all age groups can participate.
