CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE CONVENTION -HELD IN TERRACE BAY The 14th Annual Diocesan Convention of the Cath- olic Women's League was held in Terrace Bay on May 9,10 and Il. Over two hundred members from the whole diocese of Fort William filled St. Martin's Parish Hall and Clergy from different parishes accomp- anied the members. The opening ceremony was held Tuesday night with the Marching of Colours by First Terrace Bay Guide Company and O Canada was sung. After the League Prayer, Dean Gallagher director of the Hostess Council welcomed the visitors. Mrs. H. Boudreau president of Terrace Bay Council addressed the delegates and introduced the Head Table guests. Most Rev. E.Q.Jennings, D.D. Bishop of Fort Will- iam delighted the audience with his speech. He congratulated the League for the immeasurable help it has given this diocese and he commented on the Theme of The Convention"Indian Apostolate " and reminding the members of the spiritual and social work to be done with the Indian. Father Carey, Diocesan Director spoke briefly, explaining plans for the Convention. He introduced Mrs. Keon , Provincial President. Mrs. Peggy Helmink Diocesan President welcomed the guests. Mrs. Keon read greetings from Rev. Windell Provincial Director from Ottawa and congratulated the Clergy from the Provincial Council. Reeve Cavanaugh welcomed the guests and mentioned how glad he was to have the Convention in Terrace TERRACE BAY NEWS May 18, 196 Bay this Centennial year. Mr. J. Ferrier, Mill Manager" put a note of cheer in his short talk. Mr. Seppala, represent- ing Honourable G .Wardrope offered his best wishes for a successful Convention. Rev. J.Jalbert O.M.1. introduced an old school mate as the guest speaker, Rev. Guy De Bret- agne, O.M.1. who spoke on "Indian -White Relations". Everyone, ie said, has to shoulder the responsibility and fight for integration so that Indians can be trea ted as any other in our schools and communities. " White or not we all stand the same before God. Deal with them on equal terms. They feel Canada belongs to them in the first place and we should look after their country if we are to take it over." He highly re- commended the book "The Ugly American" as won- derful material of reference on the subject. After the session a social hour was held in St. Martin's Hall . Early the next morning the new session opened with prayers, the Roll Call and Reading of Rules of Order. Reports from the Diocesan Executive were read. The meeting then adjourned leaving free time for lunch. The afternoon session saw a workshop period "Group Dynamics" with Moderator Rev.D. Hannin S.J. and panelists Rev.
