Page 10 TERRACE BAY NEWS May 11, 1967 HISTORICAL EXHIBIT PREPARED BY GRADE 7 An interesting and informative exhibit has been set up in Grade 7 at the Public School through the efforts of class members with the co-operation of Mr. Davey, class teacher. Marilyn Benko, Patsy Megraw, Donna Chapman, Wendy McMillan, Lynn Mecure and Marianne Zwir were responsible for canvassing the town for articles .| lt is remarkable the wide variety of items obtained in the community of 1900 people, that only came into existence twenty-one years ago. Varying from a 200 year old rifle belonging to Mr. C .Buck through Victorian family portraits, bedroom china and hand painted crockery, to hand woven and embroidered smocks, baby gowns and corset covers, as well as many items of handwork and jew- ellery, old school primers and moral tales for little folk .The display has been seen by all grades at the Public School and will be open to the public on Fri- day May |2 after school . Keen interest was shown by students working on the exhibit and by those who came to see. It is likely that adults of the town will find something to attract them, if only to exclaim over the faded newspaper dating from the First World War, or the intricate art of the locket makers who entwined hair brushings in amazing designs. ART CLUB The Terrace Bay Art Club, at the May business meeting, formulated their summer activities . An Art Course will be held from May 20 to June |7 each Saturday from | to 5 p.m. and Thursday evenings 7 to 10 p.m. Mrs. M. Middaugh will instruct during the course which will consist of outdoor sketching and studio instruction. All teenagers and adults may contact Mrs. Middaugh or register on Thursday at the Art Centre. The Art Centre Exhibit will be open to the public for the summer commencing July | weekend, in conjunction with Teen Town's Summer Festival . Watch for pland and details on a "Wall Painting Splash". A fall course with an outside instructor is planned for September . A small donation was sent to the Centennial Comm= ittee to purchase bedding plants for the park. Anyone interested in taking visitors through the Art Centre, please contact Mrs. Middaugh at 3339. ae SPRING by Marlyn MacDonald Tiny shoots of woodland plants cautiously poked their tender green branchlets above the protection of | the soft earth, enriched by the decayed matter of the autumn before. Stray patches of snow, the last remnants of a long winter, slowly disappeared under the beating of the hot sun and the washing away of the cool showers. Fresh buds on bare birch trees swelled and opened, drinking greedily the warmth of the sun and the moisture from the rain. Children sloshed about happily in the mud, picking pussy- willows. The sun beamed its approval as a red-breast ed messenger cheerfully chirped - Welcome Spring! to ge ] e..
