A credential committee of R. Wallwin of Terrace Bay, F.Brooks, J.C .Parsons and Mrs. Pearl White of Port Arthur reported promptly at 8 p.m. and the meeting chairman, T.S.Hodgkiss, Terrace Bay welcomed those present and thanked the members who came from Port Arthur to help then proceeded with the business. Association Secretary, G.O'Neil of Nipigon read greetings from Dr. Lionel Hastings, President of the Fort William Association. Eighty one dele- gates registered - each representing 100 votes. In quick succession Toivo Seppala of Port Arthur, Ben Pressman of Geraldton and Marty Ceremaki also of Geraldton were nominated - scruteneers were appointed and nominees given 5 minutes each to address the gathering. Results of the first ballot gave a clear majority to Toi Seppala of Rossport. Guest speaker of the evening was Leo Bernier of Kenora - a comparative newcomer on the political scene. A young, dynamic man, Mr. Bernier will, we predict, make a politician of note. One of his catchy phrases was - "keep Ontario Progressive and Canada United" and referring to campaigning he advocated the P.C. candidate be "polite, proud and positive" - with no mud slinging. TERRACE BAY NEWS In the 'A' Event, Carl Konefal's Marathon rink de- Doc Rogers of Fort William carried away first place Marathon over Max Mekilok of Fort William - a game of Fort William. Fourth was the Carl LeBlanc rink of April 13, 1967 An old campaigner, Harvey Smith of the Lakehead, spoke briefly and , on the invitation of the Chain man, Mines Minister Geo. Wardrope, addressed the group. He vigorously refuted allegations made -- in a recent Toronto daily that Northern Ontario is "q poor relation of Southern Ontario". Secretary O'Neil announced that the annual meet- ing of the Thunder Bay Association would be held in Nipigon in May and a new slate of officers elected. The new candidate, Toi Seppala has been chairman of the association for several years but, with his nomination will have to retire from this position. Both Mrs.Wardrope and Mrs.Seppala accompanied their husbands to Nipigon. Mr. Seppala's plans in- clude visits all over the riding. His many activities in the past make hima well known figure throughout the province. Ontario's Derby King, Toi Seppale, shown above with his wife Esther in a jubalent mood, displayed the same smile on Satur- day night when he was nomineted to carry the Progressive Con- servetive benner in the next Provincial election.
