Jack Stokes, New Democratic Party Candidate in Riding of Thunder Bay, has been touring the Highway 11 area. In Beardmore, Mr. Stokes found that residents have a real problem. They have no proper sewage system, and no central water supply. Private wells are running dry, due to Depart- ment of Highways work on road running through town. Citizens melt snow for washing and cleaning purposes and have to fetch drinking water from as far as two miles. Most tho! not all, homes have septic tanks, and overflow pipes must be installed to the river, a consid- erable distance. "In such a situation, the danger of epidemics cannot be overlooked." Mr. Stokes said. "Some action must be taken to correct matters before it is too late. | intend to contact the Ontario Water Resources Commission imenecpataly to see if some- thing can be done.' The town is an Improvement District with the Board appointed by the Depart- ment of Municipal Affairs.
