Vol.10 No. 8 COUNCIL QUOTES Serving The Reeve and all Councillors except Roy Bray attended last week's meeting of Terrace Bay Council , g Y when three representatives of the Port Arthur and District Health Unit were present to explain the services offered by them and answer questions asked by Council. Dr. M.McCausland, Clerk W. Hanley and assistant clerk Mrs. M. Simmer were also pres- ent. Council discussed the possibility of establishing an indoor dog pound and re-iterated the published notice re dog By-Law and their intention to prosec- ute anyone who releases impounded dogs. Memberships in the Ontario Municipal Electric Association and the Ontario Association of Mayors and Reeves were approved. The proposed Library Budget was filed until a bud- get meeting is held , and road works estimate will be sent to the road superintendent for his attention. The Fire Department reported no fires or service calls and asked for priority driveway plowing for members of the volunteer force. The Police Department reported that twelve comp- laints, all minor, had been investigated. After discussion, Council rejected a suggestion that the expenses of two local electrical contractors be subsidized for attending a course on home electric heating on the grounds that public funds should not be used in helping private individuals who are not municipal employees, to increase their skill in their trade. Councillor R. Sinotte reported on a Child Wel- fare meeting he attended in Nipigon. KIWANIS HONOR NEW YEAR BABY At the dinner meeting of the Terrace Bay Kiwanis Club, the parents of New Year baby Peter Douglas Kuran were guests of honor, receiving many gifts from local businesses and a cheque from the Kiw- anis on behalf of their son. The presentations were made by Past President "Curly" Hales. Businesses participating were, Caccamo's Food- - market, Soughton's Jewellers, Robinson's Store, Kolesar's, Tony's Hairstyling, Waghorn's Phar- macy, Costa's, Crescent Finance, Voyageur Restaurant, Terrace Bay Motor Hotel and the Kiwanis Club. with setting the budget for the year. The first meeting with the Schreiber High school Board was held on Saturday evening to try to soar working agreement bet- ween the two Boards.
