Page 8B TERRACE BAY NEWS February 23, 1967 ESKIMO PRINTS EXHIBIT In the eighteen years since the first soap stone carvings landed on the Canadian Art market from Cape Dorset, Eskimo Art has become a flourishing enterprise. It has given the Eskimo the chance to show the world, as well as Canada, his power of observation, a power that for a hunting people in an inhospitable land could mean survival or death. The Art releases an equal power of imagination, depicting not only the hard truths of his every day life, but the spirits and demons perceived only in Eskimo Mythology . It is to the credit of the External Affairs Depart- ment and the Eskimo Art Committee, that the sculp- ture, drawings and prints on exhibit and the market today, are an expression of the Eskimos life, thought! Presentation of these prizes was made recently by Lou Edmunds on behalf of the Terrace Bay Municipal Council who sponsored the Tourna- ment. Other local bowlers now eligible to enter the zone finals are: Frieda Knight, Theresa Gaudet, Harry Martinson, Doris Gagnon, Monique Ferland, Pete Commisso, Jim St. Louis, and Thea Fraser. The grand prize is an expense paid trip to EXPO and a _ chance of other grand prizes. event and Louis Duquette, J. Caccamo, C.LeBlanc and R. LeBlanc took the third event at the Schreiber Bonspiel . The annual wind-up date is set for May 13th. There will be a banquet and dance at the Moose Hall. The banquet will be limited to club members but the danc is open to everyone. Roy Coran and his orchestra have been booked for the grand finale. February 24-25 is the Soughton Trophy Spiel open to club members. Skips are to enter rinks. Get entries in now.
