SCHREIBER NEWS Schreiber public library now has 3,097 indexed volumes. In 1966 the circulation was 10,461 with the months of May, September, October and Novem- ber surpassing the 1,000 exchange. The number of children doing research work was tripled last year and continues to increase. The board must consider buying another table to serve this group. Five units at $200. were borrowed from the Regional library with the high school paying for one. More books are being borrowed by the library for students doing university extension courses. Among new books recently received are four vol- umes of the Time-Life series, Now and Then Stories of Canadian Mining and Guinness' Book of Records, which sold over a million copies in Great Britain, and will be used to settle many arguments. The Board sent thanks to Mrs. G.M.Parks of North Bay for a book presented to the library. Subscription to the American and Canadian Geographic magazines were re-newed. Notice was received from the Reg- ional library that field superviosr Miss Judy Richard- son will come when called to assist district libraries. Library hours are 2 to 5 on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 on Friday. Regular meetings (which must be held monthly) were set for the first Saturday each month, subject to approval of the incoming board. The decision to reduce the board to four members was accepted with regret, since many have served for years and while public support is completely be- hind them, not many are willing to sefve. H.M. Ermel, Chairman, has been on for 25 years , while Miss Gwen Hadley, Secretary-Treasurer, Mrs. W.W. Wilkes, and Mrs. W.G.Furlonger have served for long terms. The present board will act until Town Council makes new appointments. The following officers were named for the year at the annual Vestry meeting of St.John's Anglican Church in Schreiber: W.E.Collinson rector's warden, G.H.Birch people's warden, P.R.Bailey church treasurer, W.G .Furlonger vestry clerk and envelope recorder. Rev.R.J.S.Inshaw chaired the meeting. Vestry board members are F.V.Harness, R.W.Turner, W.G .Furlonger, Mrs. Cyril Sparkes, Mrs .Jack Bryson, and Mrs. P.R.Bailey. Synod lay delegate PR .Bailey with G.H.Birch as alternate. Mrs. W.G. Furlonger agreed to assist Mrs. Robert Winters with the organ fund which is steadily increasing with many donating to it instead of memoriam cards. i Various annual reports indicated a successful year. Rev .Inshaw thanked the wardens and all who assisted in the work of the church mentioning in particular David Harrison, Warren Morrill and D'Arcy Furlong- er who took charge of morning matins and Mrs.K.S. Himes who is in charge of the Sunday School . A vote of appreciation was given Mr. & Mrs. In- Shaw. Since the church is presently without a resident rector it was decided to hold services as follows: the 1,2 and 4 and 5 Sundays at 7 p.m. with the third Sunday at 9. a.m. Sunday School is at 9 a.m. Rev .Inshaw is now rector of St.Mary's Church in Nipigon and priest in charge of Schreiber Church. Following the meeting lunch was served by the women's evening group . The Children's Day of Prayer will be held in the United Church at 7.30 p.m. Thursday, February 9. The World Day of Prayer will be held in the Ang- lican Church at 7.30 Friday, February 10 followed by a film showing and tea. Grocery hampers raffled by the Ladies' Curling Club were won by Mrs. B.LeBlanc and Mrs. E.! Johnson. This club's invitational bonspiel will take place on the l0th, IIth and I2th of February with a social evening Friday and Saturday and live enter- tainment on Saturday evening.
