Abbott, S.J.. -ecently aopointed by Pope Paul Vf te study the possibility of co- oneration with non-Roman Cath- olie bocies in the field of Bible translation, production and dis- tribution, recently visited the in- ternational headauarters of the United Bible Societies. Commenting cn the consult- ations, Dr. Olivier Béguin, Gener- al Secretary of the UBS., ex- pressed deep satisfaction regard- ing the spirit in which the new development in Rome was taking place. "Any move which will en- ccuraee the wider use of the Bible," he stated, "is to be wel- comed if it is an attempt to re- late men more closely to the Werd of Go*." Dr. Béguin point- a out that the new concern for » Bible in the Roman Catholic ake was essentially an evan- gelistic concern. "This," he add- ed, "has plaved a preponderant part in the Bible Societies' readi- ness to seek, with the Secretary tor Unity, constructive ways of co-operation." Dr. B*guin also indicated that already in some areas Roman Catholics were co-operating in translation projects with mem- bers of other churches under the auspices of the local Bible Soc- iety.
