Whiteley OUR LAKEHEAD TRIP - by Jane West We left on the Greyhound Bus around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov.8th and arrived at the Port Arthur Ter minal at midnight. The strain of the journey had sharpened everyone's appetite so we stopped to eat before trudging the three blocks to the Prince Arthur Hotel where we had almost been given up as lost. The 7 a.m. call came all to soon. After breakfast we made the crosstown trip to the Canada Car plant in Fort William. From there we were taken to the Great Lakes Pulp & Paper mill, which is also in Fort William. After lunch our group crowded onto a small CNR elevator, enroute for the Ore Dock. Next on our itinerary were the Manitobe Wheat Pool and the Keefer Seaway Terminal. Our first day ended at 'lights out' at 10 p.m. | The secon day's activity was for us to see as many phases of the educational facilities of the Lakehead as possible. Our first stop was at Lakeview High School where we stayed until after lunch. Following a short tour of the Port Arthur Court House and St. Joseph's Hospital we proceeded to the Lakehead Teacher's College where we were made most welcome by both staff and students. The day's tour ended at the University. A special bus was provided for our return journey. Most of us used the time to rest our weary limbs and to catch up on our sleep. Since our return we have had time to absorb and evaluate our trip and are most grateful to our guides and chaperones for making it a pleasurable and memorable experience.
