November |7, 1966 COUNCIL NOTES: Council's share of the cost of decorating Terrace Bay for Centennial Year came under discussion again at a recent meeting. Poles to support light fixtures and plastic banners are already installed according to the report read. It was pointed out to Council that there had been no provision for Centennial expenses in the 1966 budget, however, Council agreed to approach Ontario Hydro for permission to use Hydro funds for the installation which would meet all Hydro specifications. At the same time it was agreed to set up a reserve fund to cover comple- tion of the Centennial park in 1967. Agreement was reached on the method of payment for work done on the automatic pinsetters by J. Dejonghe since August. He will receive $150. for work already done and a future rate of $2 per hour was set. Reference was made to a letter from the Ontario Municipal League detailing arrangements for the meeting at Kakabeka Falls to replace one cancelled. "Councillor: McLeod was authorized to attend. Tabled for the 1967 Council at this time was a suggestion that townships east of the Lakehead sponsor a lunch at the 50th Annual Convention to be held next May.. Permission was granted to the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion to hold their annual chip blitz, but it was pointed out that they only had authority for one year and could not give permission in perpetuity. Acknowledgement was made of a x TERRACE BAY NEWS Page |3 letter from the Student Council of Terrace: Bay High School, apologizing for their neglect in requesting Council's permission before beginning a canvass of the town for magazine subscriptions. On this occasion, in view of the fact that the canvass was already under way, Council felt that it could not very well withhold permission but stated very firmly | that it was of the opinion that certain groups in the town were being exploited, by organizations who are avoiding payment of the statutory license fee. It was made clear in a letter to the Recreation Committee that they are merely an advisory board to Council and therefore cannot make or change policy. Stress was laid on the desirability of the Recreation Director working through the Committee who in turn should work through Council . The electorate of Terrace Bay will be asked to vote on the question of Daylight Saving Time when the elections are held on December 6. In the October report the Police Department detailed three cases of theft; shoplifting a camera and rifles stolen from unlocked parked cars. Neither the rifles nor the camera have been recovered, the serial numbers not being available. One North Camp resident was conveyed to the Ontario Hospital and the Department attended a fatal accident on Highway 17. On the night of Halloween, which was comparitively uneventful a number of incidents were investigated concerning ~ the throwing of eggs at doorways.
