a Vol.9, No.44 te 45 REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICES NOVEMBER 11TH Branch 223 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ter- race Bay will again sponsor a Remembrance Day Parade, banquet and social on Friday , November Tith. All Legionnaires and Veterans are requested to be at the Recreation Centre at 10.45 a.m. to form up for the Parade. Poppies and Medals are the order of the day. Remembrance Day belongs to everyone and on that day the public are invited to join with the or- ganizations that make up the Parade and Service at the Cenotaph. Taking part will be the local corps of the Sea Cadets, the Wrenettes, most of the local businesses and, it is hoped, the Scouts, Guides and Brownies. The evening's festivities will commence at 5.30 p.m. in the Curling Lounge. All members of Branch 223 and their wives or lady friends and all members of the Ladies Auxiliary and their escorts as well as all Veterans and their wives or lady friends will be welcomed. Tickets are available at the Legion Hall or from any member. It would be appreciated if all who are able would make an effort to attend all or part of the day's celebration. After all, they were your buddies who didn't come back. The Ladies Auxiliary will distribute Poppies. We ask you to be generous when someone calls at your home. The proceeds go to a very good cause--to help those who are still in hospitals and other insti- tutions . On November 10th, 1946 the first Church Service was held in Terrace Bay. TERRACE BAY NEW: Serving the District November 10, 1966 KIMBERLY-CLARK SAFETY SLOGAN CONTEST The winners who received cash awards for knowing last week's safety slogan were Mike Iwashkiw, Sax Lundberg, Garnet Pinkerton, Sherwin Miller and Lawrence Guillet. Two disabling lost time accidents in October cancelled out the October safe month prize awards. A Deep Fryer has been selected for the November award and will be presented to some lucky winner if there are no disabling injuries during the month. One way to prevent accidents is to consider what can happen before starting any activity and then taking action to ensure that the activity is performed safely. Your personal safety is at stake. Remember this week's safety slogan - "PLAN AHEAD AND STAY SAFE" TERRACE BAY STOP-OVER FOR VOYAGEUR TRIP Evidence that Centennial preparations will affect communities throughout Canada was brought a little closer to the district over the weekend when John Mitchell, Ontario commodore of the voyageur canoe trip which will start off from Rocky Mountain House in Alberta on May 24, 1967 and travel 3283 miles, made stops in Rossport, Terrace Bay and Schreiber . The ten canoes taking part in the Marathon paddl- ing feat will be sponsored jointly by various provinc- ial governments and the Centennial Commission. The six paddlers in each canoe will wear colourful voy- ageur costumes and at the many stop-overs enroute they hope to meet and speak with people who at one time resided in their particular province or district. Eighteen stops will be made in Ontario and one is scheduled for Terrace Bay. The local one is sched- uled for Terrace Bay. The local centennial comm- : Eantinved on Page 8...) ms
