Four hun- dred and seventy volumes of Brailie, and 4,356 records of Scripture readings were distri- buted in the first five months of this year -- a 500% increase over the previous year. The Canadian Bible Society now makes Braille and recorded Scriptures available free of charge to the registered blind in Canada, who now number 25,000, Sunday following a new policy adoptea by the Society beginning on Jan- uary 1, 1966. A letter of appreciation from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind expresses the grati- tude of blind Canadians for this service. Bible Societies through out the world now supply Scrip- tures in Braille in more than thirty languages. There are 18 volumes in a Braille Bible, and it requires 67 records in the 162/3 r.p.m. speed to provide the complete Bible on records. BEA FAWCETT HONOURED Prior to her departure for her new home the many friends of Mrs.Bea Fawcett gathered in the Curling Lounge for a farewell party. Joint hostesses were Mesdames Drexler, Lafontaine and Cole. The entertainment included a fashion show which displayed some rather startling interpretations of current fashion trends. A gift of money, a brooch and earring set, together with a scrap book of her life in Terrace Bay was pre sented to the guest of honour. As a long-service member of the Canadian Legion, Mrs.Fawcett re- ceived a Legion Pin from Mrs .Solly. A delicious lunch was served. On October 26th the Grade 5 pupils of St.Martin's School gave a going-away party for Cathie Fawcett. She was presented with a lovely Ookpik by Teresa Ramsey and Ralph Regis on behalf of her classmates. An original card expressed the children's best wishes to Cathie in her new home in Duncan, B.C. - by Marcia Nicol
