Vol .9, No.39 Bervitiy The District 1966 September 29, TEEN TOWN SETS FINE EXAMPLE Photo by G.Whiteley Armed with rakes, shovels and barrows the thirty- odd members of the Terrace Bay Teen Town pitched in with a will on the town's Centennial project--con- struction of a park from a section of raw, rough and unsightly land alongside Highway 17. During the summer months the ground had been pre- pared, paths laid out and black earth dumped in large quantities. This work had provided employment for a number of students throughout the summer vacation. Last Saturday's task was to rake level the black earth so that the next steps, preparing of flower beds, can go ahead. It was originally hoped that this would be a Cen- tennial project that would inspire the participation and co-operation of all townspeople and or ganiza- tions. However, repeated requests for work parties have resulted in generally only the faithful few turn- ing out. Teen Town was the first group to »ffer their services as an entirety. A further appeal is being made for organizations LOCAL TEAM JUNIOR FASTBALL CHAMPIONS Photo G.Whiteley With all the other activities with the Fall Festival clamouring for press coverage it appears that little credit was given to a championship won by a local team. The newly-formed Zenmac Mines team, cap- tained by Billy Stachiw, won the first annual North Shore District Junior Fastball Championship. This championship, it is hoped, will in future qual- ify the holders to complete in both Ontario and Wes- tern Canada Junior Fastball . ACCIDENTS DON'T HAPPEN--THEY ARE CAUSED! The five winners of last week's safety slogan were: Mike Churney, Fred McColeman, Wilf Corrigan, Wally Fisher-and Tom Pollard. No one missed. The prevention of accidents depends on the actions of everyone both on and off the job. Our actions de- pend on our attitudes, our state of mind.
