WATER CARNIVAL WINDS UP SWIM PROGRAM Many of the young swimmers who enjoyed the facil ities of the Terrace Bay Pool gathered there for a water carnival and presentation of swimming awards last week. Of nearly 300 registered for instruction 217 passed their tests in various classes. This high standard is due for the most part to the efforts of the pool staff and coach Wendy Duncan, not forgetting the faith- ful attendance necessary to pass. The carnival opened with vigorous water polo, followed by a diving display given by Jerry Papou- sek and Norma Chesley. A tug-of-war with the first team pulled into the water to be declared the losers was reversed when it was found that the winning team had some help from non-members. A canoe race, with the contestants rocking the boat by standing on the gunwales, from one end of the other and a hilarious barrel race followed. A lighted candle race ended the attraction--relays of swimmers attempting to cross the pool with the candle in their hands. Disqualification was the penalty for putting out the light and not one team managed to complete the whole course. Before presenting the swimming awards Mrs. M. Duriez presented the annual award to the swimmer who contributed the most to the whole swimming program. Wendy McMillan (Continued page 16)
