Photo |.McCuaig SCHREIBER MAN LAID TO REST The funeral of the late John W.Parent, aged 43, was conducted in Holy Angel's Roman Catholic Church on July 30th by Rev. Father Epoch. The service. was under the auspices of the Knights of Columbus, St.Edward's Council who conducted their service as did the Loyal Order of Moose, in the Gawley Funeral Home. Branch 109 of the Royal Canadian Legion held their service at the cemetary. | Mr. Parent was also a member of the International Brotherhoold of Pulp, Sulphite & Papermill Workers. Interment was in Schreiber Cemetary. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Smilsky, Lauri Halonen, Jr., Paul Huminicki, Ray Cook, John Jarocz and Patrick Guina. Active pallbearers were Rolland Sinotte, M.Nicol, D.Kenney (Terrace Bay) Edgar LeBlanc, M.J.McGrath and Stanley Kusik. Born in Jackfish, Mr. Parent served in the Can- adian Army and worked in Port Arthur Ship Building before coming to the Terrace Bay mill where he was employed for nineteen years. He is survived by his wife, the former Lilliam Pelto to whom he was married twelve years ago, two daugh ters, Judy and Darlene, two sons, Ricky and Pat, all small children at home, his father, Romeo Parent and a brother Arthur, both of Schreiber. He was pre- deceased by his mother and brother Angus. There are also many relatives in Schreiber the Lakehead and district. McCuaig UCW HOLD SUCCESSFUL TEA Dessert-hungry camping tourists made an over- whelming success of the United Church Women's Strawberry Shortcake tea on July 26. Runners were despatched to bring fresh supplies and the staff, usually adequate on such occasions, had to act as both kitchen committee and servitors until some of the younger local guests were pressed into service. Working at the tea were Mesdames John Spillane, president, Bill Thrower, Earl Holmes, David Nes- bitt, Jim Gray, Ivor Jacomb, Oscar Niemi, Frank Fummerton and the Misses Karen Lidkea and Nancy Spillane. The convenor, Mrs.Michael Smilsky, established a record by selling $27 worth of tickets herself.
