Photo by Inez MoCuaig GORDIE HOWE MEETS SCHREIBER NAMESAKE Gordie Howe was one idol who lived up to all expectations. Although unavoidably detained in reaching his appointed time in Schreiber, he left behind many shining joyous eyes as he presented various trophies. An important smal] gentle- man was Gordon Howe Fum- merton, looking very small be- side his illustrious namesake. Tony Speziale, school teacher, was one of 10 winners of auto graphed hockey sticks. Reg Bailey, president of Schreiber minor hockey Associ- ation, was chairman. Gordie was presented with a trophy from the association to mark his visit to Schreiber, and in turn presented the following tro- phies to local hockey players: Beginners' most valuable player, Keith Scott; peewees most valuable player, Ricky Spadoni, and rookie of the year, Paul Martin; group B peewees most valuable player, Ted Win- ters. Bantams most valuable play- er, David Bailey; most points, David. Bromley; most gentle manly, Stanley Spadoni. Picture postcards were given out, all of which were later auto- graphed by Gordie, Adults shared in this last part of the program. MRS. B.WHENT HEADS REBEKAH LODGE At the last meeting before summer recess Ruby Rebekah Lodge elected the following of- ficers who will be installed in October: Mrs Bern Whent, no- ble grand; Mrs. Jean Fisher, vice grand: Mrs. Beth Maca- dam, recording secretary; Mrs. Margaret Gander, financial sec- retary; Mrs. Florence Fisher, treasurer; Mrs. Jessie McCan- ma, trustee. conducted by Mrs. Anna Laine. A memorial service for de- ceased members was held. Mrs. Helen Wallace presented a farewell gift to Mrs. Dora Weaver, PDDP, on behalf of her friends in the lodge. Mrs, Mavis Slater gave a de- tailed report on the Rebekah Assembly which she attended in Toronto as the Schreiber repre- sentative. A te-dedication service was SCHREIBER MAN APPOINTED J.P. The contests were all run off as team efforts with A.Spez- iale arranging the program and Father J.M.Cano presenting the trophies to the winning team .who are shown above, Neldine West, Randy Bolan, Bobby Ryan, Jewell Paradis, Ted Ross, Cathy Anderson in front and Father J.M.Cano in back. Freddy Hannam of Ottawa is spending the holidays with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Vic Han- nam. Mr. and Mrs. Joe McGrath and family have gone east for their vacation to visit in Egan- ville and nearby points. 'Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Welbourne are her sister Mrs. Ida Gillies, and her niece and husband Mr. and Mrs. George Gromeder and family, ali of St. Jacobs, Ont. Douglas Stefurak is in London taking army cadet training at military barracks there, Mr. and Mrs. Syd Krause, with sons Michael and Anthony, of Acapulco, Mexico, are here visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gus Krause en route to Munich, Ger- many: - Bruce Gray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gray, is one of the 24 district high school students leaving July 17 for Montreal in the student exchange program. Mrs. Eddy Gerow is visiting Telations in Edmonton. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Kerluke and son Larry of Winnipeg are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Petrushack. The two wives are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Rigels- ford drove Sgt. Thomas Evans and his wife to the Lakehead this week to take the plane for a visit to. England. Mr, and Mrs. Ross Hill and family will holiday in Toronto and nearby points. During Mrs. Hill's absence the public library will be closed. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Moore of Toronto are the guests of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Moore at Walker Lake. Mr. and Mrs. M. Wood of Win- nipeg are at the Macadam camp at Walker Lake, visiting their son Ray Wood. Rev. Arthur Lavender and Miss Louise Lavender of Mount Forest are here this week visit- ing old friends. Mr, and Mrs, Paul Krizan and family of Canmore, Alta. are ar- riving this weekend to visit Mrs. Krizan's parents Mr, and Mrs. George Birch-
