Mrs. Rita Devlin, diocesan spiritual convener, Fort Wil- liam, wrote inviting members to attend a diocesan convention in St. Patrick's Parish, Fort William May 9-11. Those wish- ing to attend are to give their names to Mrs. Roly Stortini. Mrs. Ted Morrow presented the annual treasurer's report and financial statement, indi- cating substantial donations giv- en to the building fund, welfare and Sisters of St. Joseph. Mrs. M. J. McGrath gave the annual education report, stating three pounds of used postage stamps donated. to aid foreign missions; a bursary was given to a high school student and various awards and prizes. to graduates of the _ separate school. The newly - organized parish library now is well stock- ed with books. Mrs, Bill Mullins stated boxes of used Christmas cards, books,. papers and clothing had been; sent to missions. Christmas hampers were sent to needy families in the parish. Mrs. L. R. Tremblay for Girl Guides and Brownies stated Easter baskets had been dis- tributed to shut-ins. A Brownie enrolment ceremony is planned for April 27 and a mother and daughter banquet May 18. The Catholic Girls' club re- port stated flowers had been placed on the altar for Easter services and their daffodil tea is planned for May 21. The members brought a good assortment of gifts for the can- cer cupboard. New officers elected are:, Mrs. D'Arcy McGuire, presi- dent; Mrs. Bill Stefurak, Mrs. J. M. McGrath and Mrs. Arthur Moorey, vice - presidents; Mrs. L. R. Tremblay, recording sec- retary; Mrs. Roly Stortini, cor- responding secretary; Mrs. Ted Morrow, treasurer; Father J. M. Cano, director. MRS.H.McCANNA HEADS WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Mrs. Wesley Miller presided for the regular meeting of: Schreiber Women's Institute Tuesday afternoon with mem- bers answering the roll with eards for the secretary and pen- ny auction articles. The motto for the meeting was the proof of the pu@jng is in the eating. Selected topics for short courses were quilts and copper tooling. A donation of $5 was made to the cancer fund. A monster penny auction is planned for June 5 in the town hall. The president and the treasurer presented their an- nual reports which were ap- proved, as were reports of standing committees. CELEBRATE SILVER WEDDING Many old friends called during the afternoon and evening to offer congratulations and good wishes to Reeve and Mrs. F.V.Harness on April 16th, their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. A dinner for relations and friends was given in the Mayfair Hotel with Rev.R.J.S.Inshaw offering the Grace. Mr.Inshaw extended the good wishes of St.John's Anglican congregation for the faithful service of both Mr.and Mrs.Harness and their family and other friends spoke informally. Miss Ora Mae Harness of Fort William presented the tribute of her sisters Sylvia, Helen and herself. Mr.and Mrs.Harness (nee Eirene Fairs) were mar- ried in St.John's Church in Schreiber with her sister Mavis (Mrs.Alvin Slater) as bridesmaid, Renold Alcorn as Best Man, Bill Gerow and Alvin Slater the Ushers and J.D.Bryson as soloist. Miss Florence Smith (Mrs.Leo Payette) was organist and Rev. Warder was the minister. Mr «Manvel McCouan is in St. Joseph's Hospital , Port Arthur. The Senior First Aid Class of St.John Ambulance will start next Tuesday, May 3rd at 7.30 p.m. sharp in Schreiber Town Hall. No further registrations will be accepted after that evening. RECEPTION HELD ON ANNIVERSARY Mr .and Mrs.Godfrey Birch celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a reception in their home April 14. Not only all their family was present, but their wedding attendants were there too. -Mr.and Mrs .Birch, nee Edith Ball, were married in St.Luke's Anglican church in Fort William with Mrs .Cyril Sparkes and Wayne Wilson as attendants . The Anniversary began with special communion celebrated in St.John's Anglican church for family and relations. In the evening an open reception was held in their home. Presented were many gifts, among these a silver rose and a corsage and bouton- niere made of money. Assisting the hostess were her daughter, Miss Mar- lene Birch, Sault Ste.Marie, George Birch, Tod Wilson, Bruce Lidkea, Cyril Sparkes and Jack Moore of Terrace Bay.
