THE COUNCIL QUOTES (Continued from page one) Councillor J.M.McGrath was appointed by Council to be acting reeve during occasions when Reeve Harness is absent. Water bill of $79.29 and general accounts of $1,873.72 were passed for payment. Solicitor H.Blanchard informed Council he was not given accurate information regarding the delin- quent business tax on the YMCA and it was felt that this is now récoverable. The fire brigade report stated three regular meet- ings were held in March when all equipment was checked; instruction on Scott Air-Pak was given; inventory taken and list made of new equipment needed and fire extinguishers were recharged and return to schools. Two fire calls were answered, both small home fires. The Police report listed sixteen complaints--two trips in cruiser made to Port Arthur--forty-seven parking tickets issued and $45.00 collected in fines with costs of $16. RUBY REBEKAH LODGE MEETS Mrs.Mary Husband, N.G.and Mrs.Bern Whent, V.G., presided for the regular meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge when the names of Mesdames J. Beddard, A.Fraser, R.Winters, M.Hamilton and V. Hopper were added to the committee who arrange to receive the Youth Pilgrimage Group. Mrs .Florence Fisher reported that David Shivas of Terrace Bay will be the delegate of Schreiber IOOF #402 and Ruby Rebekah #279. Mrs.Bern Whent reported visiting hospitalized members, others confined at home and also sending cards and other tokens. Semi-annual reports were pre sented by Mrs.Marg. Gander. A donation was made to the Local Cancer Committee. Mrs.Mavis Slater was named represen- tative to the Re bekah Assembly in Toronto with Mrs .Florence Whent and Mrs.Jessie McCanna. Mrs Whent and Mrs .McCanna were also elected as rep- resentatives to the district committee. Following the next meeting on April 27 an hour - of penny auction will be run by Mrs.Jessie McCanna Mr .and Mrs .Ernie Willoughby and family of Fort William visited with the senior Willoughbys over the weekend. Later Mrs.Willoughby went to Nipi- gon to meet Mr.and Mrs.Glenn Willoughby who were singing there with the choir from Westfort Bap- tist Church. Lou and Cathy McGrath holidayed in Sault Ste. Marie with their sister Geraldine. Their brother Jack was home from school in Fort William. Mrs .Mervyn Perrault has returned from visiting her parents in Ottawa. Mrs .Helen Souliere spent the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Campbell in Ottawa. Rolande and Michelle Bedard spent the holidays with Mr.and Mrs.Garnet Jewell in Windsor . Mantell Cosgrove was home from North Bay and Geraldine Duggan from Dryden to holiday with their NEWS _ pallbearers were Wallace McCouan, Douglas May, April 21, 1966 FUNERAL SERVICE FOR EDWARD LAWSON The funeral of the late Edward (Eddie) Lawson whose death at the age of 88 occurred on April 8, was conducted in St.John's Anglican Church on April 11 by Rev.R.J.S.Inshaw. Mrs .Inshaw was or ganist and the hymns sung were: '© Love T xt Will Not Let Me Go! and 'Fi ght The Good Fig . Honorary pallbearers were Phillip Dankovicli, Cyril Sparkes, Tom Whitton, Walter Shewchuk, Nelson Smith and Tom Bolan and active Godfrey Birch, Jim Clavelle, Sulo Pelto and Alex Guryk. Interment was in Schreiber Cemetery. Mr .Lawson is survived by his wife, the former Charlotte Lockhart; six daughters, Ella (Mrs .Chas . Nesbitt) of Schreiber; Wilma (Mrs .R.S. Hutchison) of Fort William; Mrs.Vivian Axelson of Geraldton, Mrs .Alice Potvin of Schreiber, Edith (Mrs .Alex O'Grodnic)of Terrace Bay, Ruby (Mrs.James Town- send) of Ashburn, Manitoba and two sons--Tom of Schreiber and Don of Calgary. There are also 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Born at Fort Osnaburgh on Lake St.Joseph in 1878, Eddy at the age of I9 paddled from there to White River with a friend the same age. From White River he came to Schreiber in 1909 remaining here since. Idleness to Eddy was unendurable and, after retiring from the CPR in 1943 he started working for the town and at 82 was still on the job. His excel- lent memory and quiet humour made his company a delight to younger people. Shortly after arriving in White River he and fif- teen others took off from Missanabie in thirty foot canoes and ferried supplies to Moose Factory, the round trip taking four months. Attending the service from out of town were Mr. and Mrs.Jas.Townsend, Allan and Pat, of Ashburn, Man., Mr.and Mrs.Wayne Foster, Mrs.R.S.Hutch- ison of Fort William, Mr.and Mrs .Robt. Hutchison and Mr.and Mrs. Jim Hutchison of Port Arthur, Miss Ellen Axelson of Geraldton, Mr.and Mrs.Earl Link- later, Miss Mary Linklater, Mr.and Mrs.Michael Micus and Mrs.Lillian Kettere of White River, Mr. and Mrs.Alex O'Grodnic and Mr.and Mrs.T .Pelto of Terrace Bay. Mr.and Mrs.Martyn Ryan and family spent the week in Fort William with relations. Jim Mulligan of Chapleau was with his brother Pat. Mr.and Mrs. Casey McBride and family of White River visited Mrs Russell McBride. Mary Fran Kelly of Marathon was with Colleen Cosgrove while her parents, Mr. and Mrs.John Kelly, visited Mr.and Mrs .Hobden Spikula. Mrs.Richard Moher and family of Mani- touwadge spent the week with Mr.and Mrs .Edward Singleton. Mrs.W.Mullins, John Power and D"Arcy McGuire were in Toronto to attend a meeting of the Ontario Separate Schools Associatign. Miss Juanita Stewart of Port Arthur visited her brother Hugh and Mrs.Stewart during Easter week. Mr «and Mrs.Norman McCuaig were in Heron Bay recently to attend the Dunford-McCuaig wedding.
