SCHREIBER TOWN HALL Sponsored by LEGION AUXILIARY GOLDMINERS HAND LEADERS FIRST LOSS The Geraldton Goldminers and the Schreiber- Terrace Bay Juniors split their games in a weekend double-header played in Schreiber. Saturday eve- ning the Goldminers snapped the undefeated skein of the N.W.O.J.H.L. leaders with a 6-5 victory but the Schreiber Terrace Club recoverd sufficiently to edge the visitors 8-6 on Sunday afternoon. In the Saturday game, Jack Byerley scored three goals to contribute to the 6-2 lead the Goldminers held at the end of the second period and his third goal proved to be the eventual winner. The Gerald ton squad took advantage of every lapse to build up their six goal production and when the league lea- ders finally found their legs, the Goldminers were strong enough to hold them.off. A spirited three goal effort from Bill Stachiw was not enough to prevent his teams first loss. Other Geraldton scorers were Fyck, Boucher and Ruddick while Jon Mac- Donald and Paradis contributed singles to the Schreiber-Terrace Bay cause. Geraldton continued their fast skating, oppor- tunistic type of hockey on Sunday afternoon and held a 3-1 lead by the end of the first frame. Schrei ber opened up the game with an early goal from Jon MacDonald but this lead was soon erased with Ron Ewacha firing in a pair past Bryan Webb and Jack Byerley adding another. Bill Stachiw narrowed the count to 3-2 with the only counter in the 2nd period Nine goals were scored in the final period with the hometown crew accounting for six of them to end the game 8-6 in their favour. Jon MacDonald got two more to complete his hat trick while Dom Pellegrino added singles. Jack Byerley with his second, Ron Ewacha with his third and Kelner rounded out the scoring for the visitors . BLUE LINES - Each game drew over 400 fans in Schreiber this weekend. It seems to be one of the best hockey towns on the North Shore Byerley and Bill Stachiw continued their rivalry for leadership in the points race Byerley picked up five goals and one assist while Stachiw potted four and assisted on four others Both games were crowd pleasers with a lot of scoring but both teams lacked the polish of good junior hockey clubs.
