RECREATION BRIEFS - by Buck Now that the Winter has set in on us, people in Terrace Bay have chosen their various recreation activities for the season. From the amount of ac- tivities and leisure-time entertainment provided in the community, there is very little reason for an yone to say there is nothing to do during their leisure hours. | will comment on sev- eral activities and coming events: Minor Hockey - Registrations for the teams are as follows - Atoms - 23 Flyweights - 14 PeeWees - 49 Bantams - 17 Midgets -7 The amount of registrations has dropped sharply in comparison to other years. Last year's registration was around the 160 mark. One reason for the large fall-out is the number of families that have left Terrace Bay. The Bantams are operating as an All-star team, as they did not have enough boys for a house league. The Midget category which was once the central league in minor hockey, is now defunct. The regis tration was not enough to ice a hockey team. Several of our Midget hockey players have moved up and are playing _ Junior hockey. Minor hockey is at a very low ebb in Terrace Bay and needs a shot in the arm. The Minor Hockey Association is at present without a president, and it is quite likely that Mr.Joe Adamo will fill this position. He certainly is capable of getting Minor Hockey back on its feet, with all his previous administrative hockey experience. The Minor Hockey Executive reports a lack of coaches and officials and committee members to carry Minor Hockey. There must be parents who are willing to give up a small portion of their time to promoting Minor Hock ey. Many parents are more concerned with their own recreation rather than that of their children. The gift packs are very reasonably priced and the money raised will be used to purchase equipment and cover any expenses incurred by Minor hockey this coming season. A reminder to all hockey coaches and the executive that a meeting will be held on Thursday, December 2nd at 7.30 p.m. in the Adult Study Lounge of the Recreation Centre. BOWLING - Four leagues are currently bowling regularly - Mixed 5-Pin - Men's 5-Pin - Ladies' 5-Pin and Ladies 10-Pin. We notice a few new bowlers who are bound to become serious threats around roll-offs--Joe Heenan and Jack Well- ings. The Kurylo mixed 5 team is start- ing to show signs of high-total supremac | am hoping to get the Youth Bowling League underway just as soon as | get 7a few more registrations. Special bowl- ing prices will prevail for all Junior League bowlers. For any boys or girls who are not participating in any other recreation activities, why not try bowling for good health and wholesome recreation. BOYS & GIRLS GYM CLASSES Regular classes have been held at the High School Auditorium every Saturday afternoon from | - 4p.m. The gym pro- gramme consists of tumbling, apparatus work, group games, volleyball, basketball wrestling and folk dancing. The age limit is boys and girls from 8 years to 14 years of age, and newcomers are wel come. The Supervisor for the programme is Janis Mc- Innis who is aided by the very capable help of Jane West and Mark Boudreau. All girls will be asked to purchase their own batons, but should not purchase one until the club is organized. We still have open- ings for any girls (ages 10-14 years). The talented Brooke Rapke will teach the basic fundamentals of baton twirling and Mrs.Jones will concentrate on the dance steps and routines. The first meeting for all girls interested in baton twirling will be on December 4th at 4p.m. in the Gallery Room of the Recreation Centre. KEEP FIT CLASSES - An attempt will be made to reorganize Men's and Ladies' Keep Fit Classes. The classes will con- sist of volleyball, basketball, weight training, tumbling, appratus work, circuit training and free exercises.
