« November 25, 1965 NEW MATH DEMONSTRATED TO CATHOLIC PTA There was a large attendance at the Catholic Pa- rent-Teachers' Association meeting on Nov .|8, it being report card night. Russell Campbell presided, informing the members that word has been received from Town Council that a school cross guard will be stationed at Costa Corner. Christmas treats for the school children and installation of a television for educational programs were discussed. Raymond Guil let of the staff, with the assistance of pupils of grades one and eight, demonstrated the new method of teaching mathematics. This was followed by a question and answer period. Mrs .Don Souliere's committee served lunch. The attendance prize was won by Mrs .Dominic Figlio- meni's room. L.R.Tremblay won the door prize. CATHOLIC GIRLS' CLUB MEETS ~ Crystal Kusik presided for the Catholic Girls' Club meeting on Sunday afternoon. Coleen Cosgrove and Cathy McGrath were appointed co-Spiritual conven- ors for the year. The card committee reported cards have been received and orders will be delivered shortly. The three winners in the draw prize were Anna Fummerton, Shiela McParland and Monica Gauthier. A novelty table was planned for the Catholic Women's League Bazaar tea on December 9th. Father Cano gave the closing prayer. Mrs .Bottomley Sr., has gone to Victoria, B.C. to visit her son Jack and his family. Frank Figliomeni will be joined by his brother in Toronto where both will take a plane to Italy to visit their ailing mother. Elton Fummerton is visiting his sister, Mrs. Howard Showers in Simcoe. CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE MEETS Mrs .Bill Cocks presided at the regular meeting of the Catholic Women's League on Sunday evening . A most appreciative letter was received from the Fort William Sanitorium for a donation of books and magazines. Father Cano spoke on the Ecumenical Council and standing convenors reported as follows:- Mrs. H. Prescott - on wreath laying on Nov.|II and helping with the Poppy Day canvas. Mrs.M.J.McGrath thanked those who had donated books to the parish library, in particular Mrs.T .Borutski for a large num- ber of children's books. Mrs .L.R.Tremblay teported the Brownies will hold enrolment ceremony on December Ist and the Christ- mas party on December 13th: Mrs.E.Borutski said she had spoken to the local theatre manager, suggest- ing he try to obtain better movies for weekends when young people attend: Mrs.Joe Caccamo reported en- rolling twelve new members and total membership of 187: Mrs.H.Shack said members of the girls' club will start delivery of Christmas cards and that the girls had helped with Xmas Seal envelopes and would take part in the Xmas Tea and Bazaar. Mrs. Bill Mullins will convene a Penny Auction for children on December |0th. Lunch was served by Mrs .Bill Stefurak's committee. CHRISTMAS HAMPER COMMITTEE MEETS The committee which plans the Christmas hampers each year for distribution in Schreiber and Terrace Bay met in the YMCA committee room on November 18, with Bill Jones presiding. Representatives were present from the Lions Club, the Kinsmen and Kin- ettes, the Moose Lodge and Women of the Moose, the C .P.and T.committee, the Kiwanis, Order of the Eastern Star, Knights of Columbus, the Women's Institute and the Children's Aid Society. A list of names was considered and a second meeting planned for Dec.2nd at 7.30 p.m. in the same room. The public is asked to submit names which they feel should be on this list to Bill Jones, Tel .366l, Terrace Bay, Mrs.L.R.McCuaig, Tel .66 or Mrs. Gerry Godin, Tel. 593, Schreiber. : The recently-organized Wrenettes, with members from both Terrace Bay and Schreiber, conducted a very successful bottle drive to swell their funds. Two trucks were used and the town thoroughly covered.
