« November II, 1965 POSTER CONTEST HELD IN LOCAL SCHOOLS During the month of October a poster competition was held in the grade five classes of St.Martins Separate School and the Public School. This com- petition is held annually. by the Ontario Fire Chiefs Association and each county winner has a chance to have their poster entered in the grand provincial finals. Should a county child's poster win in the provin- cial Final the prize is a trip, with a parent, to the location of the Fire Chiefs Convention, with all expenses paid, plus a $500 Savings Bond. The winners in Terrace Bay this year were Aline Landry, aged 10, of St.Martins School and Larry Black, age 10, of the Public School. Their posters are now on the way to the County of Thunder Bay Finals and we hope they will end up at the Conven- tion in the Spring. Terrace Bay Fire Department. DISTRICT CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY MEETS The Schreiber-Terrace Bay Committee of the Children's Aid Society held its regular meeting on Nov.4th in the home of Mrs.D'Arcy McGuire, the secretary-treasurer. Rev. D.F.Muldrew gave the opening and closing prayers and Alex Power was chairman. Mrs. J.Adamo and Mrs.Vern Hopper were welcomed as new representatives from Ter- race Bay. THE NEWS Page II November |8 was set as the date for the first meet- ing of the Christmas Hamper committee, attended by both Terrace and Schreiber organizations, the meet- ing to be held in the YMCA committee room. Gerry Litt, social worker, reported that he had successful meeting with workers in both Terrace Bay and Manitouwadge. He attended a three day case seminar at the Lakehead, chiefly concerning repeat cases; and another seminar of clergymen and social workers. J.H.Dawson and Mr.Litt have b een made members of the counselling service which operates 24 hours a day in Manitouwadge. Mr.Dawson will be in Terrace Bay this week on his monthly visit. A number of adoptions and private placements have been completed and during the month two emer- gency cases were handled. Mr.Litt said clothing of all kinds is needed for boys from 5 to 8 years and beds, even if only spring and mattress, are desparat- ely needed in one place. He also said he hoped to attend the conference of the three branches in Geraldton soon. He described his month's work in detail, reporting a most encouraging improvement in conditions in one area.
