Photo by Inez McCuaig ST.ANDREW'S CHURCH OBSERVES 80TH ANNIVERSARY The 80th anniversary of St.Andrew's United Church was marked by special services and the attendance of former members from distant points. Rev.Wm.Holmes, B.A., B.D., of Ormstown, Que. minister from 1925 to 1934, was the speaker at the morning service. In the afternoon a congregational dinner was served by the U.C.W. Dr.Arthur Laven- der of Mount Forrest, minister from 1939 to 1949 was the speaker at the evening service. During the evening service the infant son of Rev. and Mrs.D.F.Muldrew, Roderick Andrew Muldrew, was baptized by Dr.Lavender, assisted by Rev. Holmes, in water brought from the river Jordan by his parents. In his address of welcome Rev.Muldrew greeted by name, Mr.and Mrs.Jim Carmichael, Arnprior - Flt. Lieut.Lois Davis, Ottawa, Mr.and Mrs.W.R.Bur- roughs, Farnham, Que., Dr.and Mrs.J.E. Thompson of Islington, Mr.and Mrs.A.W.Cuthbertson, Mrs. Frank Petty, Mr.and Mrs.Percy Page, Port Arthur, Mr .and Mrs.W.R.Black, Mrs.Henry Davis, Mrs.G. H.Reid, Mrs.Harry Daniels, Mr.and Mrs.Albert Nel son, Fort William, Mrs.Percy Sully and Mrs.E.Le- gault of Rossport, all of whom had been active in the work of the Church. LOCAL GROUP HOST TO DUPERIOR DEANERY The Women's Auxiliary of St.John's Anglican Church was hostess group for the meeting of the Sup- erior De anery. Rector R.J.S.Inshaw was celebrant of Holy Communion, assisted by Rev.1.L.Robertson, Rural Dean, of Wawa. Following this service the clergy and auxiliary were served luncheon in the church hall. Superior Deanery president, Mrs.R.E.Gray, pre- sided for the meeting in the afternoon which began . with the general prayer of thanksgiving and the W. A.prayer. Reports were presented by Mrs.Leah Foley of Red Rock, Mrs.J.Molloy of Marathon, Mrs.F. Atwill of Nipigon and Mrs.K.S.Sparkes of Schreiber. The author, Mrs.A.Manley, read the history of the Thunder Bay Deanery Women's Auxiliary which was formed in 1936 with the first meeting held in St. Paul's Church, Fort William. Congratulations were extended to Mrs.Gray on her appointment as president of the Superior Deanery. In describing the various activities of the Girl's Auxiliary in Schreiber, Mrs.Inshaw said that, despite the small membership they were justly proud of the honors they had won and she felt strongly that interes was kept at peak by the responsibilities delegated. An appeal for assistance in the junior girls group was made by Mrs.W.Sutherland, Jr.Auxiliary secretary for Thunder Bay deanery. Mrs.F.Parkus, Diocesan Family Life Dept. (pre- school), secretary, described changes being made in the Little Helpers organiza- tion. Miss Heath er Graham volunteered to assist in this work. Mrs.1.H.Birch displayed educational supplies. Red Rock, W.A., through Mrs.Foley, ex- tended an invitation to host the next deanery meeting Fine needlework in a beautiful display of Pakistani embroidery by Mrs.George Brownridge was much ad- mired.
