- Page 10 LEADERS NEEDED FOR BROWNIES Mrs. Hilda Hiebert was hostess Monday as the Local Association to Guides and Brownies met. Chairman Mrs. Hazel Lang welcomed the ladies, and opened with the Guide prayer. Secretary Mrs. Betty Turner read the minutes and a letter of thanks for a donation sent to the Polly Lake Camp Fund. The resignation of another Brownie leader emphasized the desperate need for more leaders. One Brownie Pack has been unable to start this fall, due to lack of leadership. A Division meeting will be held in Nipigon during October. The Treasurer's report was read by Mrs. Lang. It was agreed to purchase Guides Handbooks for the leaders as Companies and Packs are low on funds One new Guider uniform is to be purchased each year. C .B.C. in Winnipeg will be contacted for the use of a film on Guiding shown on Television last summer If this can be obtained it will be shown at the next Guide Banquet. A suggestion was made that Associa tion members visit the Guide Companies and Brownie Packs during the year, further acquainting themselves with their work. Badge Secretary Mrs. Margaret Simmer reported nine badges passed successfully. Ways and Means Convenor Mrs. Hiebert proposed an At Home Tea and necessary supplies will be ordered. Camp Convenor Mrs. Althea Fraser itemized camp equipment and a storage area for this equipment was located for her. The ladies were reminded to save old nylons for the next Brownies' drive. Mrs. Lang urged everyone to think about the elections in January. There is to be a Guide Rally in the Lake- head October 2nd, and girls could attend if transportation was volunteered. The meeting closed with a delicious lunch served by the hostess. Mrs. Helen Brooks and Mrs. Margaret Simmer will take the October and Novem- ber meetings and hold them in the Community Church Hall . SOCIAL NEWS The Ladies Auxiliary will hold their October meeting Monday evening at 8:15 in the Terrace Bay Community Church. Continuing their program on ' Canada, the Provinces of Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba will be covered at this meeting. All ladies cordially invited. Adelaide and Roger Beaulieu have returned from a three week holiday in Dalhousie, N.B. and Gaspe, Que. visiting with her Mother Mrs. Emma Carter and sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gendron Rod Thompson has entered Lakehead University to study Forestry. Bert and Jim Duncan travelled to Orillia, to visit his niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Chalmers and also his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. Wilson, visitors from Kilmarnock, Scotland, re- newing their family ties after an absence of forty- nine years. Wendy Duncan has returned to Lakehead Univer- sity to resume her studies for a second term. Bob Hopper is in Kirkland Lake, enrolled in Chemistry Engineering at the School of Technology . Joan and Joe Charban with Scott and Marcia from Castlegar, B.C. are visiting with Norma and Len Crockford, enroute to make their home in the Lakehead. Ann and Mike Churney arrived home Monday, hav- ing visited their daughter and son-in-law, Florence and Steve Kolesar in Atikokan and on to Fort Frances' returning back this way and travelled on to the Ottawa valley. Hilda and Hugh Brophy and George Ramsey re- turned last week from New York City, where Hugh and George had attended the International Conven- tion Pulp, Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers Union in the New Yor Hilton. They visited the United Nations and World's Fair and were the guests of the local unions on an evening boat excursion, around Manhattan Island. Many of the current W.S. programs are now in c color and latest reports from the C.B.C. are that in June next year experimental broadcasting in color will start with Labor weekend as the projected time for color to hit canadian air waves. The equipment needed by individual broadcasting stations is costly and it will be entirely up to them when they will venture into the new field.
