"- Vol .8, No.33 COUNCIL QUOTES A letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs from Reeve W.J.Adamo, protesting the involvement of young communities in supporting the proposed Dis- trict Home for the Aged was read to Council mem- bers at the Tuesday meeting in Municipal Chambers and received their full support. The water report was read following inspection of the pollution facilities which found insufficient care had been taken in emptying the camp area septic tank in the Fall of 1964. One portion was found to contain debris and recommendations made to correct the situation. Further correspondence from Mill Manager J.Ferrier suggested the Township seek the advice of the Mill's Technical department. The Department of Highways advised they were contin- ving with the speed zone studies during the summer months. The monthly report from Fire Chief R.Hofland noted one fire at 6 Pine Crescent, reports on volunteer fire practices and vacation arrangements. He re- quested additional hose but was advised this year's budget would allow no more to be purchased. Per- mission was given to order material for Fire Preven- tion week. The Statistical report from the Police Department listed investigation of fifteen occurrences, four - summons issued with two convictions and four bicycles recovered, details of a break-in at a jewellery store and check made on the local theatre during showing of restricted movies. Councillor Brown moved that Constable J.J.Doyle be promoted to Corporal and the motion was passed unanimously . Accounts for July were passed for payment as fol- lows: Library $243.98, Hydro $5,664.21, Township $13,391.58 and Snack Bar $6,476.44. Councillor Cavanaugh expressed satisfaction with work being done by older boys in cleaning up and brushing. He recommended summer work be schedul- ed each year commencing in July. The Police Cruiser was overhauled and the garage are investigating warranty coverage. Councillor Brown informed Councillor Fraser that work is start- ing immediately on the fire storage area. A motion was passed appointing Alan MacFadyen to read meters. Councillor Brown stated he was very surprised at the storm of protest over the shooting of b ears at the dump. He could not understand the lack of concern for the safety of the townspeople and felt Council had been required to take action for their protection. Reeve Adamo wanted it understood he had requested Councillor Brown to contact the Department of Lards and Forests regarding the bear situation at the dump and it had been the (Continued page 2) OLYMPIC DAY AT PLAYGROUND Olympic Day was held by the Playground Tues- day afternoon. Under the leadership of Recreation Director Buck Matiowsky, Playground Supervisor Janis McInnes and leaders Marie Delaronde and Darlene Larson, all age groups entered into scaled competition. The winners in these events will com- pete against Manitouwadge on Saturday, August 21 when they host a Sports Rally in Terrace Bay.
