- June <7, 1965 CUBOREE (Continued from front page) Seeonee pack took the trophy away from Manitou- wadge. A tug-of-war was greeted with enthusiasm and en- couragement from the rest of the cubs. Marathon Yibob pack edged out the Terrace Bay Mowgli pack in this contest. The trophy was presented to Mara- thon by Sam Baxter, district chairman. The Manitouwadge pack were accompanied by A.D.C.Tom Warren and Lou Pelletier; the Marathon pack by A.D.C.John Greene, Harold Ross, Bill Springer and Ed Hughes; the Terrace Bay Pack by Paul Maleshewski, Clarence Rousseau, Cleon Smith, Don Teniuk, Paul Rochon and Miss Elainge Long. Schreiber pack were led by Jim Thomasing and Ray Cote. Arrangements for the occasion were made by group committee members Jim Smith and Edgar Le- Blanc. The Commissioner and leaders expressed apprecia- tion for the yoeman service done by the many who drove the cubs to Schreiber, and to others who, at the last moment were requisitioned to assist with tests. Tests included physical, hopping, plank walking and somersault, Ist star test in road safety, showing prin- cipal points of compass, tying knots and explaining their uses. Perfection is not the quality sought by the leaders but rather a spirit of determination, the ability to participate and co-operate; wholesonepride in a pack's win and=-no small achievement at such an age--the attempt to harness boundless energy for a purpose. MARIA COMMISSO WEDS COSIMO FIGLIOMENI Red glads and white carnations were used to adorn Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church on June 12 for the wedding of Maria Commisso, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Dominic Commisso and Mr .Cosinio Figlio- meni, son of Mr.and Mrs.Geronimo Figliomeni, all of Schreiber . Father J.M.Cano officiated. Miss Carole Lalonde was organist and Giovanni Cebrario the soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was gowned in chiffon over taffeta with hooped skirt having a lace frill at the hem. The tight bodice had a scoop neckline, lace yoke and long sleeves. A chapel veil of silk illusion was caught to a crown of pearls and she carried a crescent of red Delight roses with stephanotis. There were five attendants--her sister, Mrs.Jim Costa as matron of honor, her cousins Miss Anna Figliomeni and Miss Teresa Speziale, bridesmaids; her niece, Julie Speziale as flower girl and her nephew, Dominic Commisso, ring bearer. ontinued .... THE NEWS Photo by | .McCuaig BROWNIE CEREMONY HELD A new ceremony was used by the Brownies for their Golden Hand Rite which signifies they are ready to enter Girl Guides. This year candidates approached the leaders through avenues of other girls and at each corner were challenged by small policemen wearing Chief hats and very large white gloves. The candidates stated their errand and some of their qualifications whereupon they were majes- tically waved on. Those receiving the Golden Hand were Debby Caccamo, Maureen Campbell, Susan Phillips, Janie Duggan, Alanna Power and Kathy Botiomley. Proficiency badges went to D ebby Caccamo, Maureen Campbell, Susan Phillips, Janie Duggan, Alanna Power, Kathy Bottomley and Sharon Scott. Tawny Owl Mrs.Ray Sisson asked the girls how they had earned their badges and, on her approval, they went on to Brown Owl Mrs .Bill Stefurak to receive their honors. Other leaders taking part in the ceremonies and leading the games were Brown Owl Mrs .Giovanni Cebrario and assistants Mrs.O.B.Fasan, Mrs. Harry Shack, Mrs .Ray Sisson, Tawny Owls, and Mrs . Paul Mostovac and Mrs .Clem Desmou lins . The Brownies contributed several action songs much enjoyed by the large audience. Following the program tea and small cakes were served by the girls. Miss Joan Neil who has been on the staff of the Public School for the past four years was given a surprise party arranged in the home of Mrs .Michael Smilsky on Friday night. Mrs.Gary Drake was co- hostess and Mrs .Bill Kinney assisted in serving lunch. Miss Neil was presented with a blue bulky knit sweater and Buxton wallet. At the party were Mesdames K.Scott, G.K. Searles, E.Willoughby, Stuart Jones, Geo. Burns, Earl Holmes, W.Clemens, H.W.Gellert and L.V. Bourke, J.Smitheman and G.Vanderlip. Miss Neil will teach in Cochrane next year. Mrs .Georges Legault has come from Montreal to visit her father, J.D.Bryson, ill in hospital . J.O.Milks is in McKellar Hospital . Fit .Lt.Lois Davis, RCAF, is here from St.Hubert, Quebec, visiting her brother Ken Davis and sister Mrs .Bill Lidkea and their families.
