Last year Dave Whalen and Steve Smith stood out as the top golfers in Terrace Bay. Dave, straight and accurate down the centre is also proficient with the short irons and putter, Steve is undoubtedly the longest ball hitter in our district. With the long holes in our course Steve is going to be tough to beat. However, Steve and Dave are going to have com- petition in the near future, judging from the remarkable progress made by quite a few who took up the game last year. Emo, our Pro, has been having trouble with the weather and hasn't been able to fulfill: his program in completing the last two holes. The fairways and greens are ready for seeding and should be able to seed this week and they should be ready in July or early August. We are happy to report that membership is now over 170 and should reach 200 by next pay- day. There is some talk of the ladies forming their own club. Such a move would assist the beginners a lot by forming groups who would have instruction at economical prices. Emo is quite willing to give group lessons and we are certain that many would be interested. Golf, despite its frustrations, is inter- esting and always a challenge. Some instruc- tion, whether from a pro (preferably a pro) or more experienced player, is definitely a MUST at the beginning. Once the rudiments of the game are mastered the game becomes interesting and progress more rapid, We would like to remind all golfers(Page 7)
