Those days had instilled a wonderful feeling of pride of loyalty and secutiry. It was after the First World War that the Union Jack gradually gave way to the Red Ensign. The great Depression of the 1930's was soon upon them and the very survival of most of the people gave no time for thought of flag or country with the result that by the time the Second World War came along, Canadians as such, had practically lost their iden- tity. The. great honor our Navy, Army pnd Air Force brought to C anada in that war, the prestige of our Prime Minister, sitting in on War Councils with Prime Minister Churchill and President Roosevelt, the wonderful post-war expansion along with the world wide image Canada gained at the United Nations and other world gatherings, all added up to again make them realize the wonderful potential of this Country.
