April 1,"1965 COUNCIL QUOTES (Continued from page 4) which, in some instances, had exposed plumbing, making it subject to weather conditions and conse- quent freezing. Consideration was given to the problem. The Sea Cadets in Terrace Bay wrote to Reeve Adamo seeking assistance from Council in the pur- chase of ceremonial equipment. Though admiring greatly the work done by this group for the youthof: the community, Councillors could not justify a pur- chase of this equipment. They chose instead to make a grant of $150. for the furtherance of the Sea Cadet Corps in Terrace Bay. -An irate citizen wrote to Council, complaining of the snow pushed or blown by townsite crews onto his landscaped lawns. This snow, containing sand and salt, did tremendous damage to the lawn, necessita- ting re-seeding. Councillor Thompson remarked the complainant was most conscientious and had done a good job of his property and the adjacent highway property. However, Councillors agreed they coul d not be held responsible and could not reimburse for the cost of trucking away this snow. Replying, the Town's solicitor informed Council that Sunday movies come under the Lord's Day Al- liance Act, and permission could not be granted until it was submitted to the voters for their approval. The matter will now remain in abeyance until the yearly election when a plebiscite will be presented. Strutt and Clerk W.Hanley in connection with the hiring of a district Assessor. He stated he would continue his investigations. Councillor Brown reported receiving a letter of resignation from Constable John Warfield and recom- mended both Constables be given letters of recom- | mendation. Applications were being received in answer to their advertisements for two Constables. At present Councillor Brown was attending to the Reeve's instructions to make arrangements to accom- modate the Police Department. He forwarded a complaint received during the past week, regarding the parking of a trailer truck unloading at the rear of the Liquor Control Board Store. This was extreme ly hazardous in obstructing the vision of traffic in- coming from the Highway, particularly with children running out from the adjacent passway. Council had been assured by Supt.Erickson of the Ontario Provincial Police that, in the event there was no new Constable hired before the end of the month, his Department would service the town on a temporary basis until the position was filled.
