. | THE NEWS SOCIAL NEWS A Farewell Party was held for Polly Daniels at the home of Lorette Solly Wednesday evening with some twenty-five friends attending. . Polly received a corsage of red roses on her arrival. Many amusing little remembrances of Terrace Bay, complete with verse, were presented to Polly before her gift of lingeree and a Legion Brooch from Auxiliary President Mrs. Solly. Games entertained the ladies and lunch and refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Daniels left Saturday with her children David, Diane, Mary to visit in the Lakehead before flying on March 13th, to join her husband in Duncan, British Columbia Nurse Gladys Oatway left the Staff of the Terrace Bay Private Hospital last weekend to return to her home in Oshawa. Prior to her departure she was en- tertained by the staff and presented with a gift of luggage. Replacing Miss Oatway will Mrs. Mary Battershill on staff. Peter Adamo is home from Toronto visiting with his parents Reeve and Mrs. W. Adamo. Fran O'Connell and children of Sioux Lookout have been visiting with Jackie and Gordon Calder for the past two weeks. Brian O'Connell joined his family for the weekend in Terrace Bay, before they returned home. One rink skipped by Heather Lafontaine with Phyl Kelty, Mary Hale and Marg Knight travelled to Chapleau over the weekend to enter their Ladies Curling Bonspiel. Hospitality was extended to them by Mrs. Payette and Mrs. Dorlene Collins and though no prizes came home with them, they reported on a wonderful time. Sandy Fedorak was rushed by Ambulance on Wednes day to the Lakehead where she was flown to Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto for Neuro - Surgical treatment. Sandy is reported still in a coma following an emergency operation Saturday. Any girl eight years of age and wishing to join Brownies may register with Mrs. lrene Kettle. The bride wore a wool sheath dress in turquoise shade with white hat and accessories, and carricd corsage of tea roses and red carnations atop a lace cov- ered prayer book which be- longed to her late grandmother. Mrs. Fred Schwetz, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor, She wore a beige brocade sheath, brown hat and aeces- sories. and a corsage of tur- quoise carnations, Leon Fraser of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., was best man. For a reception held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. De Lar- onde, Terrace Bay, Ont., the bride's mother received, wear- ing a pearl gray wool sheath dress, embroidered with metal- lic thread, with a white hat and accessories and red rose cor- sage. Lori Drake marked her 6th birthday on February [5th with a party of twelve playmates. Mrs.Drake was assisted by Lori's brothers Boyd, Bill and David, in arranging games and entertaining the small guests and Mrs.Michaal Smilsky assisted in serving lunch when each received a take-home treat after the party fare. Lynn Drake is in McKellar Hospital. Reeve F.V. Harness, Hydro Commissioner, J.D. Phillips and J.E.Stokes are all in Toronto attending a convention of the H.E.P.C. Mrs. Harness and Mrs.Stokes accompani ed their husbands, to visit friends and relatives in the City. Mr.and Mrs. Victor Hannan of Ottawa were the guests of Mrs.Carl Fadden last week. Mrs.Edna McCouan and daughter Eva Mary visited in Fort Willam last week with Mr.and Mrs.Ken Sim- ard. This week they have with them Mr.and Mrs. Pete Blackburn. The Kinsmen Club Fuel Oil Draw was won by Mr. H.McParland. Winning ticket was drawn by Mrs. Rene Bedard on March Ist. Mr.and Mrs.George Leyngyel are holidaying in Sudbury, North Bay and Kingston. During their ab- sence Mrs.Leyngyel's mother and aunt, Mrs.Eva Speers of Sudbury and Mrs.E.R.Kiddell of Parry Sound are staying with the family. A delightful linking of past and present was pro- vided last week when Rev. Sister Ruth Marie of the Order of Mary Knowles, paid a visit to Schreiber. Sister Ruth Marie is with a Mission in .Hong Kong and showed films of the people there and the work being done and the desparate need. Sister Ruth Marie said that on her return to Hong- kong she would gain in esteem from the Chinese since she would prove, by pictures taken in Schreiber, that she had followed their custom ot returning to pay respect to the 'city of her ancestors' and to their home. The Sister's grandfather was a Mr.O'Donnell and her own father was born in the house now occupied by Tommy Whent, the O'Donnell's having moved to Fort William some sixty years ago.
